Micro-Mesh Touch Up Stick

About This Item

Cushioned for a scratch-free mirror finish. Three Micro-Mesh® abrasives in one handy tool, about the size of a pencil.

Perfect for small touch-ups on glossy finishes, the Touch-up Stick is padded so it flexes and conforms gently to the work. We rely on these in our own shops for finish touch-ups and repairs.

The stick includes three Micro-Mesh grits on a padded core (5-3/4" x 1/2" size).

Black: 2400 grit
White: 4000 grit
Grey: 12000 grit

Micro-Mesh features tiny abrasive crystals on resilient cloth-backed latex. These gentle "cushioned" particles generate less heat and friction than ordinary finishing papers, don't load up as quickly, and last up to 15 times longer. Use Micro-Mesh with soapy water to produce a scratch-free mirror shine on finishes and pickguards. Great for repairing scratches and overspray. Use them for polishing frets, too.

Micro-Mesh was developed for polishing jet windshields to maintain their optical clarity. Imagine how your instrument will look!

Work well in limited life span

I really like how well these work for polishing up dirty or scratchy frets or even minor fret sprout issues. However they don’t seem to last long at all. I ordered 3 at once my first time ordering and I only work on my own 4 guitars and I was only able to get maybe 2 guitars worth of frets polished with each stick before it was all used up and no longer useful. I just wish these lasted more uses but I guess that’s why they are inexpensive and if you plan to do a lot of fret polishing because you work on other peoples guitars or because your own guitars require more work like leveling, crowning and what not then the set of micro mesh pads are probably a better investment. These are more suitable for someone who has very few guitars to work on and don’t need a lot of uses out of them.

I had fret sprout on some of my guitars and did not want to pay $45 to repair each one.

The touch up sticks did the trick to clean up my fret end filing.

I bought a few extra to have on hand. These do wash up well with dish soap (still using my first two)
Wonderful Stuff.

So far it helped me taking out a scratch from the back of the neck of my guitar. Ordered more because I know I will be using them in the shop a lot more.

Finishing touch for fret sprout

By

I bought this along with the 6 inch file for fret sprout. This is the finishing touch for fret sprout. You spend a little extra with Stewmac products but you get what you pay for and they produce results, not excuses.

Great tool to cure fret sprout

These micro-mesh touch up sticks work great at filing the ends of frets, if you get some "fret sprout" when winter comes. They're tough enough to do the job, but soft enough not to damage the finish or fretboard. With these sticks, there's less need to tape off your fretboard when smoothing sharp fret ends. I wouldn't use these to replace a fret file, but they're great for cleaning up burrs off the end of your frets.
