Blister Quilted Maple, Acer saccharum
Known for its beauty, strength, and tone, Hard Maple really can do it all. The rare 5A blister quilt exhibits an incredible mix of three-dimensional shapes. The textures are so varied and intense, it looks like you could pop one of the bubbles if you touched it.
The blue-green color streaks (called "blue stain" or "sap stain") is fungal discoloration that happens after the log is cut. The fungus doesn't affect the structural integrity of the wood, and the drying process terminates any remaining fungus.

Like most maples, it finishes easily and looks beautiful under any stain or translucent color. From classic sunbursts to modern gradient finishes, it's easy to accentuate the figure and natural color for a truly three-dimensional finish.
It works well with hand tools, power tools, and CNC. Chip-out can occur with highly figured wood, but using razor-sharp cutters and taking light passes can help prevent this.
