Figured Sapele, Entandrophragma cylindricum
Sapele is often referred to as one of the "African Mahoganies", but it is neither a Swietenia nor a Khaya. Sapele has many visual and tonal qualities of genuine Mahogany but without the additional import restrictions.

Tonally it is dry, fast, and articulate. It is perfect for flat pickers and players looking to not get lost in a sea of ringing notes or overtones. Many major manufacturers and custom builders love Sapele for both its tonal properties as well as its easy workability.

These sets have a wide variety of figure, ranging from traditional rope figure, to intense curl, to outstanding quilt. The intensely figured sets are still priced far less than you'd expect for similar figure in Honduran Mahogany.
