Side Bending Practice Wood

About This Item

Don't split the good wood! Before that beautiful set of AAA side wood touches your bending iron, you'll want to practice with this inexpensive wood.

Start with this set of two 4" x 25" practice strips, and you'll lessen the chance of splitting the good wood. These quartersawn wooden strips have the same thickness as our guitar side woods (.095"-.100"). Wood type may vary. See our instructions on side bending to help you get started.

Set me up well

As I understand, it could be a variety of different woods that are sent. I was sent 2 pieces of decently curly maple. They were approx 2.5 mm thick. As it worked out, because of the figuring, they were more challenging to bend than my actual sides, which worked out very well!

Does the trick without worry

Glad I bought a set of these. They helped me get over the first time bending. Glad I did as I messed up one board and learned a lesson without having messed up my guitar side. Like everything at StewMac, the price is a bit high, but the service and return policy makes up for that hands down. I don't think about the price much when I buy from StewMac because I know I don't have to worry about it. So the wood is fine, does the job, made me feel better about bending, and I didn't worry about quality or service. 5 Stars.

Great idea

Why practice on expensive or rare woods. A little thicker than my actual sides, but great for learning.

I have received only one kind go wood, instead of two, shown on picture

I have received only one kind go wood, instead of two, shown on picture.
I see in description, that "Wood type may vary.", but practicing on maple, when going to bend rosewood should be different.

Don't waste your money

These are small scraps of maple they are selling. They are much smaller than even a small parlor sized guitar sides and the milling is not terribly good. I did use them and they were fine as practice wood but being so small, they were pretty useless. When I wanted some more wood to practice bending I literally just milled down a scrap piece of maple flooring on my table saw. Took 2 minutes and didn't cost anything.

just the ticket

It was so helpful to be able to practice bending the first time. Every species will be different - this was maple, I used mahogany for the guitar. But I figured it out. Trying to keep the costs down I might have gone without, but it was SO WORTH IT.
Thanks Stewmac!

Perfect for giving me some confidence on my first guitar on a homemade bending pipe. Cheap lessons learned before going to my real sides.
