Sipo Mahogany Neck Blank for Electric or Archtop Guitar

About This Item

African Sipo ("seepo") is a beautiful mahogany variety. A little bit denser with slightly bolder grain. Can be shipped internationally!

Fine wood for building your own neck.

About our mahogany neck blanks
Used in traditional guitarmaking, genuine mahogany is very stable, dense, and is one of the best woods for woodworking; it sands easily, routered edges stay crisp and sharp, and it accepts stains and finish. Unsurpassed working and finishing qualities.

While international trade of mahogany is becoming more restricted, the search for comparable alternatives has been ongoing. Sipo is the closest we are finding to the traditional mahogany that does not have any restrictions to shipping it worldwide.

seriously fine wood

I ordered three of these for a series of arch top guitars and planned with one piece necks. the blanks are clear with no checks or defects. The wood is dense and heavy and the grain is reasonably tight. They are surfaced smooth 4 sides and reasonably square for blanks. I'm still giving them five stars considering that with each of them the grain is 23-30 degrees off vertical though technically still considered quarter sawn. They should still make good necks.

. . . and it worked wonderfully! Nice and rigid, easy to work (a little tougher than mahogany, but still nice to work with). Finished to a warm, deep reddish-brown. I'm really happy, and will be back for more.

Neck blank arrived nice and square. Straight too. Nice grain. The only issue I had was the end grain on one end had ALOT of deep checking. The blanks could benefit from having their ends sealed to prevent this. I managed to work around them, but just barley.

The one I got is a great piece of wood for the neck. I'm building a set neck electric and this grain is definitely quarter sawn, the grain is almost perfectly perpendicular to what will be the top surface. Plenty of wood to make any neck. Very nice color too, I don't think I will color it at all, it would be a shame to cover it up. Thanks Stew Mac! I almost never give 5 stars, but I don't see any flaws in this piece of wood.

Got my order today. Just like the mahogany body blank this is an excellent piece of wood. Very happy with the purchase. Looking forward to working it this week!

The wood arrived in a nicely packed box with several other items on my order. It had a few, quite large, chips off one edge and had red and white paint on one side. Not critical, but made it difficult to work with and join the neck joint.
