About This Item

Build your own modern ukulele!
You don't need any wood working experience to build this great sounding and playing uke. The cutaway makes it simple to play all the guitar songs you already know.

Want a fun weekend project that sounds amazing? You just can't beat this ukulele. We've taken care of the tricky parts like bending the sides, shaping the top and back, and other tasks you'd normally need specialized equipment for. With this head start and our detailed easy-to-follow instructions you'll be building and playing in no time.

Designed for the contemporary player
Ukes are loved for their easy playability, and the cutaway makes it even better. If you're a guitar player, it's effortless to play your favorite songs on this uke—now you can reach those higher frets with no problem. The cutaway also makes it more comfortable for younger players with smaller hands.

No Woodworking Experience Required!
Our detailed instructions and bracing plans guide you through each step of the build, from start to finish! To reduce spring-back and help stability, the back and sides are made from high quality mahogany laminates—this will go a long way to ensuring your first build is painless and enjoyable. The solid mahogany top will only sound better the more you play it. Available in concert and tenor sizes.

I have just received my Stewmac cutaway uke kit and am looking forward to getting started on this project. I have just finished making my Baritone Uke and have thoroughly enjoyed making that. These kits require a little skill, but more over, thought in the building, but Stewmac do all the really tricky bits for you and with care and patience you can make a top quality instrument.

excellant customer support.

I had some warped bracing pieces in my kit. StewMac sent replacements right away. My project was not delayed.

Excellent Customer Service

A small piece of wood from the kit arrived broken. I emailed Stew-Mac and they sent the replacement part to me within days free of charge. Looking forward to building this uke. Thanks Stew-Mac!

Nice Kit.

I am an exp. builder. Kits are a fast, affordable way to make a great gift for a loved one. I like SM kits. I was ready to replace anything but the sides if need be. I have an inlaid fingerboard, 8 hole bridge, custom headstock veneer, carved rosette, flamed mohag binding ready to go.
I was delighted to see a dark mahogany/Sapele body with a nice figure. Dimensions are good. The glue joint on the neck is nearly invisible, which was a very nice surprise. I like the kerf better than other SM uke kits. I make mahog blocks for it. This kit is a winner. THANKS!
