Tuner Screws for Solid Pegheads

About This Item

Phillips roundhead screws are ideal for modern tuners. Slotted roundhead screws are perfect for traditional tuner styles and vintage instruments.

Waverly guitar machines use slotted screws. Both styles are 3/8" long.

Pilot holes required: Installing delicate screws such as these into hard maple requires great care and accuracy. We highly recommend using a 3/32" bit for the pilot hole before installing these screws. Lubricate the screw threads with cutting lubricant (also wax or a bar of soap) to reduce friction and help them thread properly.

Solved my little problem

I had a set of Grover tuners I wanted to switch out with the factory tuners on a new guitar. The screws were missing. I’m thankful StewMac have the perfect replacements

Strong and accurate

I bought 12 black screws because of the reviews. They are the same size as the screws supplied with the Gotoh tuners, yet they have a noticibly beefier thread. I recommend pre-drilling with a #43 (.089) or #44 (.086) bit and use a #1 Phillips screw driver. The screw head didn't shred at all, like the Gotoh screws did. The only thing I didn't really care for, is that they are more of a matt finish, where I would prefer a gloss. I shared a picture comparing screws.

diameter was a bit big compared to the holes on my headstock, so I had to redrill, otherwise these are great.

The screws fit for Bass tuners and had the strength needed for me.

Gold screws tarnish easily

By

Verified Buyer

Although it is common for gold screws to tarnish easier than other plated/covered screws, these tarnished and rubbed off merely by handling them while screwing them into the guitar. On the plus side, they make it easy for guitar relic'd hardware.

#3361

Important: Thread-thickness is 2,6mm, at least on the #3361-set which I had ordered (they're thicker than previously ordered stewmac-sets). These screws might not fit on any kind of tuners. Example: Some old Schaller tuners had 2,3mm screw holes, and the screws were 2,2mm. Schaller changed to 2,5mm, but the actual stewmac-screws still don't match perfect. Check before you buy, unless you like to drill up the tuner holes. I use metric drill bits for that, from 2,2 to 2,7mm - they're available in steps of 0,1mm. On the good side - these screws won't break as easily as thinner ones did.
