Roller String Retainers for Guitar, Set of 2

About This Item

Patented rollers help eliminate tuning problems and reduce string breakage.

Mounting screws included.

Pilot holes required: Installing delicate screws such as these into hard maple requires great care and accuracy. We highly recommend using a 5/64" bit for the pilot hole before installing these screws. Lubricate the screw threads with cutting lubricant (also wax or a bar of soap) to reduce friction and help them thread properly.

Work well, cosmetics are lacking

These string trees work smoothly, but they don't look that great. The plastic body is really bulky, and it has a weird flat circle on the top, which stands out in a bad way against the textured body.

Worked very well in my guitar

I used these to replace the cheezy little bent metal scrap that came stock on a strat. I used both of the retainers, on the 4 thinnest strings, spaced out so that the string angle over the nut was pretty uniform. I was concerned at first that the string tension would pull out the little screw that mounts the retainer. It hasn't. They've held solid. I just made sure to drill a pilot hole a little smaller than the screw and it bit down hard! I can confirm that these help tuning issues. The strat stays in tune better than before, especially while doing bigg bends and whammy stuff. The look modernizes an old school strat, too! I like them.

A better tree

The old T-bar tree finally got to me. I had little twangs going on when bending the G at the 7th fret. So after analysis I realized it was the original factory string tree. I purchased these roller trees and problem solved.

Well it's not the T-bar tree, and a button might have given it a retro look, but with the graphite saddles and graphite nut it all matches. And the old trusty strat plays better than ever.

Keeping Strings in Line and in Tune: Check.

I purchased the string retainers because I was having problems keeping my G- and B-strings in tune and seated in the nut properly without buzzing.

The G-string was especially bad for going out of tune during vibrato bar dives or with heavy vibrato use.

In combination with a new Tusq nut, this problem has now been eliminated.

As much as I like these, I'd like to suggest that the manufacturer check their rivets and maybe move to making the blocks out of aluminum instead of plastic.

The rivets are a bit weak and the ends did allow the one wheel to release (which I fixed using a scratch awl, pressed into the rivet end to re-secure the wheel).

The aluminum block would make better contact with the headstock and facilitate more sustain, in my opinion.

I have a feeling that the plastic base dampens some of the sustain.

Along with locking tuners and a properly cut nut, this helps keep my strat in perfect tune even when dive-bombing.

Not as nice looking as all chrome ones but work well and hold strings nice and close to peghead.

these string retainers are great for any fender style neck. there is very little friction and they are rock solid in the neck. I'd buy them again.

Not so good looking retainers

Nice retainers, they do the job, although installed on the guitar's headstock they look too massive and kinda ugly because of their big black plastic base. I found myself preferring an all-metal ones.
