Economy Banjo Tuners, Nickel, set of 5

About This Item

Money-saving set of 5. We offer this complete set of 5 tuners as a low-cost alternative for banjos with simple peghead shapes.

The set includes four open-gear guitar-style tuners, plus bushings to adapt the tuners for 3/8"-diameter pegholes.

These tuners have 14:1 ratio and include mounting screws. The non-geared friction 5th string peg has a tension screw. All tuners have pearloid plastic knobs.

(Note: Our replacement knobs will not fit these tuners.)

Economy banjo tuners

By

I purchased these to fix up a cheap Chinese banjo I picked up for $40 - For the price these are decent tuners, although the 5th string tuner is way too sensitive, but it is not geared, so this is to be expected.

I have been quite surprised at how well they have stayed in tune (despite the cheap strings I put on while setting up the action).

One word of caution: Look at the diagram closely - I looked at the pictures and the diagram (sort of), and did not realize these were set up as tuning peg above the tuning post orientation, whereas what I was replacing was opposite. As I said, this is a $40 banjo I picked up as a 'beater' for traveling up to camp or other places where damage is a good possibility, so having to fill a couple holes and the plates looking a bit 'off' does not bother me - makes it 'unique'

Great value for restoring inexpensive tenor banjo

I used these tuners to resurrect a $20 garage sale find that's been just a decoration in our family room for over a decade. I tried replacing the original friction tuners with upgrades, but I never was satisfied with how fussy they were to dial in and they quickly detuned no matter how I adjusted the tension screw.

These tuners work great and now I can pluck a few old Blues tunes on this four-stringer.
(apologies for the ribbon in the photo - just a temporary hanging method).

Help for a battered Kay banjo

I am working to get an older orphan banjo playable again. The tuners are a bit big but so far so good! Your service was so very prompt and I really appreciate it!

Money well spent!

These tuners were just what I needed to get an inexpensive banjo playable again. I had to drill new holes but this is a cheap instrument and has no real resale value so what the heck. It stays in tune now much better now. The tuners and a little nut work and I don't feel I have to go out and spend $500-600 for a beginner banjo just yet...Thanks StewMac!

Replacement Blues

I was crying the blues over an old banjo with violin tuning pegs that wouldn't stay in tune. Reluctantly, I ordered these tuners to solve the problem. They did the job. The unidentifiable banjo, which was most likely a teacher-made for student project knock-off, would have lacked a potential buyer and any monetary value. So, instead of owning an instrument I couldn't play, I am, now, an appreciative owner of an antique that might turn a few heads and generate a few interesting conversations.

Just what I needed

I had to drill some new screw holes, since they didn't line up with the original cheap tuners. This purchase was for an Asian entry level banjo, and the old tuners worked fine for a few years until they started to feel like they had sand in them. Other than a bit of drilling these went in fine and are super smooth. I'm using them with Nylgut strings.

Economy banjo tuners

Quite some time ago, a friend gave me an old inexpensive banjo. It was filthy, a tuning key missing and the head needed cleaned and adjusted. It had a broken tailpiece and warped bridge as well. I did not want to put much money into this entry level instrument, so these economy tuners were exactly what I needed. They fit and work great.
