Initially had a heck of a time trying to fit my 11" Weatherking head over this ring. Was an unusually tight fit in my unprofessional opinion,and so sent a query off to Stew Macs tech department. While awaiting a reply I decided the only option was to carefully mill the ring to acceptable tolerances and am happy to report that all parts now fit snugly and I'm off and picking again. Much appreciation to Larry Anderson at Stew Mac for his prompt reply to my email questions.

They come quite round, no mod in dia (11") needed to use it as a tone ring. Even better, using two makes a great tone ring (2 lbs), can duplicate Deering tone ring patent with some milling. Surface is good enough i could leave it as is, just waxed it.

If you think a tone ring has to weigh 3 to 4 pounds to sound good you may be surprised by these rings. I have used several of them in some bluegrass-style banjos and I really like the tone they produce.

Well made rolled brass ring that delivers great results.

This ring has more bottom than the standard rolled brass ring that I normally use. I fitted it on a rim with a rolled brass ring that was too short. The resulting tone was similar to an old Mastertone with a calf skin head. Some great discoveries come from mistakes.
