So-so...

I bought the relic version for an early 50s Martin.

Pros:
Hold tune well
Decent relic finish

Cons:
Tuners tend to stick or "lock' after sitting unused for a while despite lubrication.
Relic finish a tad extreme. They not only look old, they look ancient.
Buttons very smooth and blemish-free - does not seem to match amount of distressing on metal parts.
Price point

If I were to do this again, I would probably by the nickel tuners and relic them myself. I also wonder how much of the "sticking" may be due to the relic process.

Well made tuners

I use Waverly whenever a client can, but there are times that style, vintage or budget require a little more modest tuner and the Golden Age Restoration tuner is a great fit.

My preference is to get the bright nickel and age them at the shop - tarnish the metal, and add a little age to the cream plastic by softening the gloss with MicroMesh and tinting with dyes. Just enough that they look like they've been on the guitar a while.

These are well built, and I'm happy to use them, even on '50's Martins when the need arises. (bushing will require you to slightly ream the headstock holes for a chip-free fit)

These tuners have some severe drawbacks.

I bought a new Martin with these tuners and immediately noticed how stiff and inconsistent turning them was. StewMac to their credit sent me a replacement set and I took a closer look before making any changes. First thing I noticed is the amount of rocking the shaft does, it's not at all rigid, that coupled with the bushing being too large for the shaft makes tuning pressure pull these to the front of the bushing causing them to bind and hard to turn. Also just turning one you can feel the uneven mesh of the gears with a noticeable skip in each one I tried. These may look cool but in my humble opinion are poor quality tuners that I would not recommend.

Response from StewMac

Hi Robert,

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback with us. We're sorry to hear that the Golden Age Restoration Guitar Tuners you received didn't meet your expectations. Those tuners have "bent tab" worm supports which can cause the rocking in the shaft that you were referring to. However, our guarantee is 100% satisfaction in every way. If something doesn't meet your expectations, you are welcome to return it anytime for a refund or exchange. Our customer support team has decades of experience making customers happy. Please call us at 1-800-848-2273. We look forward to helping you with this.

Great replacement!

I used these to replace the stock tuners on an Eastman E10-SS, which are definitely the weakest item on that guitar. The fit perfectly and are so much nicer and are reasonably priced.

Perfect for 1941 Martin 00-17

Extremely happy with the Golden Age Repro tuners on my 1941 Martin 00-17. Perfect fit, perfect look. Love the matt finish of the aged cream tuner buttons. Stew Mac, why can’t the three on a plate aged repro tuners come with those same buttons, makes no sense to me??? Gave each tuner a touch of Tri-Flow lubricant and a good wind back & forth before install. Guitar tuning up perfectly. Thanks guys. Love em’ ! Andy Pearn, Deniliquin, Australia

These tuners look absolutely original. They brought my 1949 0-15 back to where it belongs.
