Acoustic Pickguard Blanks

About This Item

Get the right look for your build or restoration
When you've spent countless hours making or repairing a guitar, don't settle for anything less than perfect! Many off the shelf pickguards have a look and feel that is inauthentic for your repair or build. We've finally found the right material that has the authentic pattern and look builders and repair techs have been asking for. And, this PVC plastic material is easy to cut to shape and work with!

Our Tortoise, Shell, and Tiger Stripe patterns were painstakingly modeled after vintage originals, so the look, pattern, and color has the exact style and match you're searching for. We have several patterns of Shell and Tortoise that look remarkably like protected (and outlawed) Hawksbill shell.

The tortoise and shell patterns are expertly printed on a translucent material in several shades and colors. You'll see the subtle grain pattern of the top through the pickguard, like you'll see on priceless vintage guitars.

The Black pickguard material is better than you expect—it has the right flexibility to make a custom shape, and resist warping when installed. The Pearloid has the shine, movement, and color for the perfect flashy look.

Versatile size and material
You can easily get two standard OM or Dreadnought pickguards from each blank—the material is big enough for any custom shape you can imagine.

They're simple to cut to shape with sharp scissors, and scrape and file easily. We chose the material to be easy to sand and polish to shape—you can effortlessly bevel or round the edges to the exact shape you need.

Use our Micro-Mesh Pads to add some scratches and wear to match a vintage guitar you are working on, or make a matte finish if that's what you want.

Self-adhesive! The top surface is high gloss, and the back is self-adhesive for easy installation. High-quality Dexerials adhesive backing forms a consistent bond to keep the edges down when installed. The top surface has protective plastic to keep it unscratched during fitting and installation.

Looking for pre-cut pickguards? We have them ready to go in 1930s Dreadnought shape and OM Shape.

Black pickguard sheet

Worked great! I traced out a left handed shape on my vintage Guild (very particular pickguard shape) and now I have double pickguards. Looks great and I cut it with scissors (using the middle part of the shear - not the tip!). Total success! Now I have some left over if I need more pickguard material (I probably could cut two more of the exact same shape)

Returning

Ordered 3 blanks of Vintage Brown Tortoise, Brown Tortoise and Tiger Stripe and found all 3 to be very fake looking. Not impressed at all, especially considering the high price. Better than some other material I have checked out, but still looks like computer generated images.
Blanks are all the same, so I will be able to spot these patterns on instruments in the future.
2 of the 3 pre shaped guards I got are exactly the same.
Surprised considering the positive reviews.

I bought the pick guard blank for my new Seagull Merlin. The blank is perfect, and it came quickly.

Replaced a vintage Martin 18 with this the day it came. It cuts easily with the jig saw using the masking tape super glue trick from a past Dan shop video. Sandwich the material between two sheets of 5/32" plywood. The pattern was cut very close and the final fit done with dragon skin and 1000 grit paper. Perfect fit! No waste, no ragged edges. Sealed the top with thin super glue and used the double faced sheet adhesive to mount it. The old celluloid guard had cracked the top in two places which were easily repaired and reinforced with the "button and wire" crack repair kit.

replace a pick guard that was too small

I bought this (uncut pearloid pick guard blank) on the recommendation of a tech/luthier who was fixing a gouge and covering the spot where a young energetic strummer was digging a groove into the guitar top just next to the bridge of a Taylor 210C. The item shipped fast, but due to a big storm on the East coast and Christmas volume of mail, it took a few days longer to receive it.

Made a nice guard, added a couple layers of clear guard material under the firestripe to make it a little thicker. It looks good.
