Precision Straightedges

About This Item

For accurate fretting and neck evaluation.
We make our Precision Straightedges specifically for checking neck straightness and relief, evaluating truss rod adjustments, and pinpointing high or low frets. Available in four lengths, for working on any fretted instrument, from mandolins to guitars to basses.

The narrow beveled edge allows easy and accurate viewing of the gap between the edge and the surface being checked. Made of ultra-high-grade stainless steel with a satin finish, each straightedge is precision-machined for accuracy to ±.0015" per foot. These straightedges are also ideal for laying out projects on wood or paper, and for setting up table saws, jointers, and other shop equipment.

Made in the USA of German/Austrian stainless steel. You won't find this level of quality with cheap knockoffs!
Each of our straightedges go through a rigorous 13-step manufacturing process that guarantees accuracy. These straightedges are extremely precise, heavy duty, and designed to handle a lifetime of use in your shop. Before each one gets shipped, it's personally inspected before leaving the factory.

Our Precision Straightedges won't bend or dent as easily as some aluminum straightedges on the market. The satin finish allows you to mark it with a pencil in order to make notes or to compare one guitar’s setup to another.

  • Guaranteed accuracy to +/- .0015" per foot
  • 0.090" thick 420 German/Austrian surgical stainless steel (2.286mm)
  • Hardened and tempered for lasting accuracy
  • Individually inspected to ensure precise tolerances
  • Proudly made in Ohio, USA
#3850 18" Precision Straightedge is part of our Basic Setup Kit.

For acoustic guitars, our Neck Set Gauge is designed to attach to the #3799 24" Precision Straightedge.

I have been replacing some things for my guitar repair shop that I did not have after changing to my own shop from a great music store gig after many years. These Straightedges are great like most everything from StewMac!

The Perfect Tool For The Job.

I had been looking at straight edges costing twice as much, which were much more then I needed. When StewMac popped up I thought that name sounds familiar. Yeah, Scott's Bass Lessons recommended. Perfectly designed for what I needed for setting the bow in the neck of my bass. And at a reasonable price. And of course coming from a Luthier Supply house it would be well done. Thanks folks for making Bonnie Sing!!

The Right Tool for the Job

Used a 12" square to check relief for years. So glad I decided to give this a try. It's much more accurate because it spans all of the frets on the fretboard. Also useful for checking fret height on all of them at once.
