Refret Saw and Fret Slot Cleaning Tool Set

About This Item

For easier refretting! Two specialized tools for scraping away wood chips and old glue, in ONE money-saving set!

New frets won't seat correctly until the old fret slots are clean! These unique tools are needed to loosen and remove packed wood dust and old glue, and deepen shallow fret slots.

Refret Saw has two slim .023"-thick blades—one cuts on the pull stroke, the other on the push. Also sold separately

Fret Slot Cleaning Tool has a thin, hooked, square-edged chisel that's ideal for getting into the corners of the slots on bound fretboards and pries up dried glue. Also sold separately

Additional widths are available for the Refret Saw.

Additional fret slot cleaning chisel blades are sold separately.

Slots too wide for frets

By

Verified Buyer

During my last refret job working on an old guitar, I ran into an issue. The saw is .023". The fret tangs on Jascar jumbo frets are .021" with .036 barbs. I decided not to glue the frets, as there was no glue originally and the barbs were a lot wider than the slot. Big mistake. When I started filing, frets popped out left and right. By the listing it looked like I was buying a .020" saw. But when I received it I noticed it was .023". Why would it be that much wider? Long story short, I had to glue a lot of frets after the fact and was annoyed each time one that seemed tight popped out. I even lost one near the end of the job and had to remake it and spot level. I wish the kerf was a little narrower.

Works well but be careful

The saw has the perfect kerf for jumbo frets. It cuts nicely. A word of caution for unbound fingerboards. Don't get too rambunctious with this saw. If it slips off the edge on a pull stroke it will leave a fairly good sized ding in the neck heel. When you sand out the ding you could affect the fit.

Fantastic time saving combination

By

After "making do" with various filed down blades I bought this set. The saw is fantastic, feels nicely made with a comfortable handle and reversed teeth so you can get right into tight corners.

The scraper is really high quality, and as a bonus you get a second blade included. The clamping mechanism is really well made and would hold various other "exacto" style blades securely with a large comfortable handle that you could use all day with no discomfort.

Thanks again Stewmac!

Ordered these tools while placing an order for fret wire for a refret job. Really useful and well working tools. One can clean fret slots with other tools, there are always different ways to perform a job but these tools are easy right off the StewMac shelf a no brainer to order them.

Great fretting tools

The tools feel good in your hand and do a great job. I do feel that the prices are a little too expensive, at these prices they should come with a life time warrantee.
