Understring Radius Gauges

About This Item

Fast, accurate bridge saddle adjustment.
Each of these unique gauges has an accurately radiused arc on both the top and bottom surfaces, and is shaped to fit easily under the strings.

Use the bottom curvature to determine your fretboard radius, and the matching top curvature becomes a reference for setting string saddle heights for best playability.

Low profile fits tight spots. The slim shape of our understring gauges allow you to read the fretboard radius even with the strings on! This is also handy for matching pickup polepiece heights to the arc of the strings. And setting bridge saddles is easier than ever.

Standard width covers 6-string guitars and most 4-string basses—the gauges span string spreads up to 2-5/8" (66.68mm).

Extra-wide covers string spreads up to 3-3/4" (95.25mm)—enough for
4-string, 5-string, and many 6-string basses. They'll also handle
7-string and 8-string guitars.

Available in three sets to fit your needs:
Standard width, set of 4 includes these common radii:
7-1/4", 9-1/2", 12", and 16"

Standard width, set of 9 includes these radii:
7-1/4", 9-1/2", 10", 12", 14", 15", 16", 17" and 20"

Extra-wide, set of 9 includes these radii:
7-1/4", 9-1/2", 10", 12", 14", 15", 16", 17" and 20"

Stainless steel.

There are cheaper sets out there from other sources, but the customer comments are filled with disappointment in their quality & accuracy. No such problems with these excellent gauges.

Best part: the gauges easily slip under strings and over pups, allowing you to use them in adjusting the radius of your bridge. Not all gauges do that because their radius-arcs are too wide for some guitars. Next best part: I only bought the 4 gauge package because I aint got a lot of dough, but those 4 gauges work on every electric guitar I own, which include 2 LP Juniors, 1 Mustang, and 2 Telecasters: 12" for my 2 juniors, 9.5" for my Mustang and 1 of my Teles, and 7.25" for my other Tele. The 4th gauge is for 16" radius, and since i don't have a guitar with 16" radius, I'm just gonna have to buy a new one.

I am not a luthier, just own a few guitars. This tool is create for helping adjust bridge saddles to match your neck radius. There are cheaper sets out there but I read reviews stating that one side of the gauge is different from the other side - ridiculous. I always trust the quality at SteMac.

better than what I was using

These are just what I needed - I didn't check the number of gauges in the set (but that's on me)! I have a cheaper set of radius gauges that seemed like a good buy, but after deburring them I realized they were too "tall" to fit under all but the highest action. They still work on top of the strings or unstrung fingerboard but were useless for adjusting saddle height, pickup height et cetera. As we all know, you usually get what you pay for.
