Freehand Holder

About This Item

Spray a better finish with less work! Our versatile guitar body holder makes spray finishing easier and more efficient.

How do you hold a guitar body to spray a finish? Hang it on a ceiling hook and weave around it while you trip over your spray hose? Fasten it to a stick and hold it up until your arm cramps? Prop it up and hope it doesn't fall over when you bump your worktable?

The unique Freehand Holder is our new solution. It's an easier way to hold a body or neck securely, for a more uniform finish.

Freehand Holder includes:
• Sturdy steel frame
• Rotating handwheel shaft
• One solidbody attachment
• One acoustic attachment

Clamp the sturdy steel frame into your vise and fasten the guitar body or neck to the rotating handwheel shaft. Attachments for solidbody and acoustic neck joints are included. Now simply turn the wheel as you spray. The body moves to you, not the other way around, for easy, uniform spray coverage. A smoother finish means you'll save time and effort at the sanding stage, too.

The wheel has Allen-adjustable resistance. To switch bodies quickly for production finishing, extra body attachments are available separately—you can spray one while another dries.

You'll probably discover other work-saving uses for the Freehand Holder, we'd love to hear about it!

Very Handy

I have found these the absolute best way to mount an acoustic. I would give it five stars if it would fit all body types. For smaller bodies, such as parlor bodies, one end needs to be ground down to make it narrower to fit the pocket.

This is helping me out so much!

I made a little spray booth out of a wardrobe moving box, plastic drop cloth, clamps, and some gorilla duct tape. I have a round block of wood with a vise screwed into it and then the Freehand Holder clamped into the vise. The whole thing is held up by a small, round footstool. With the round block of wood on top of the footstool, I can spin the guitar horizontally with ease while spraying. The arm with the 4 neck screws holds the guitar PERFECTLY, and the round knob on the end makes it easy to rotate the guitar vertically as well - the movement is very smooth, which makes for fewer over-spray mistakes.

Must have tool for guitar finishing

The Freehand Holder is solid and holds the guitar at good angles to go a rotisserie type finish. Results are better and the process is easier than holding by hand or suspending from a rod or wire. I would suggest that StewMac offer an adapter for acoustic dovetails. You cannot use the acoustic attachment without making a block to put in the dovetail or else reshaping the acoustic attachment and screwing it down into the dovetail. I’d also recommend having two of the plastic blocks for clamping the arm into a workmate bench versus the one that it comes with for clamping into a vise. Both of these design oversights require workarounds. Other than that it would be a 5 star review.

Good item. Works great. Good value. This is the best thing I have purchased for working on a guitar. You cannot believe how much more professional your painting will appear when using a Freeland Holder.

Reasonable value

This is so much easier than mounting handles to the body and neck. It is sturdy and a reasonable value. I would much rather build guitars than build a fixture. My only suggestion is there is not a safe way to hang the guitars after spraying them. It would be more useful if there were eyes welded to the attachments for hanging the work on a hooks.
