Solomon SR-137 Turbo Heat Soldering Iron

About This Item

A dual wattage soldering iron with a high efficiency ceramic heater. This durable iron features a turbo button that toggles between 15 and 120 watts.

Heats up quickly, cools down fast
15 watts is usually sufficient for most guitar and amp wiring jobs, but sometimes it's nice to have a turbo boost. Press and hold the button for 10 seconds and the iron reaches its maximum temperature of 842°F (450°C). This is really handy when grounding to a tremolo claw or the back of a control pot. The turbo boost lasts while the button is pushed and should only be used in 10-20 second intervals.

    Features include:
  • Durable stainless steel shank sleeve
  • Turbo boost for when extra heat is needed
  • Long-life non-corrosive 1/32" fine-point tip
  • 5-1/2 foot cord

We recommend: Order a chisel tip for soldering connections to the back of a control pot or grounding a wire to a tremolo claw. It's also handy for steaming out wood dents with a damp cloth.

The adjustable Soldering Stand is a must-have for convenience and safety.

#0507 is a 110-volt AC electrical appliance, 60Hz. It has a U.S. standard Type A plug with two flat parallel prongs and one round pin, grounded.

#0607 is a 220-volt AC electrical appliance, 50Hz. It has an international plug Type F (Europlug) with two round prongs, grounded.

Great but not enough power for a novice?

Everything seems promising about this iron and the power boost option. But as someone new to soldering, I couldn't get it to work with lead-free, silver solder (0.04" dia.). I couldn't tin parts nor remove old solder. I could only get the solder to melt on direct contact with the iron tip. So I ended up buying and using a 40 watt iron for my guitar rewiring project. Maybe I'll be able to use the SR137 as I get more experienced. Or I'll use it for finer jobs like a pedal pcb. That's my fault. But I give the product 3 stars because the description (in the print catalog) should have contained better caveats for customers like me. None of this will deter me from buying from StewMac in the future.

Like night and day from my old "big box store " iron. Quick smooth joints. Highly recommended!! Bought the stand with it. Stays where you put it .

A Soldering Iron That Actually Works

By

Verified Buyer

I have far too many store bought solder guns and irons that quit working shortly after purchase ... after only several uses. This solder iron is quite good and works very well. The tip gets hot enough on the low (non turbo) setting to get a good solder joint every time. On the turbo setting, the tip gets hot enough to turn red! This I use when the metal I am soldering pulls too much heat out of the tip.

Better Than I Thought

Very nice iron. I am replacing a solder station I purchased 40 years ago and just need something to get me by till I totally retire. This is a very nice unit and the extra "boost" button makes it very usable for when I need to have a little extra heat.

Let's just say soldering is not my strong point. I've tried numerous irons. guns and pencils and this is by far the best. The "turbo" button makes all the difference

Excellent tool for guitar repairs. Two stage heat negates need for full size soldering gun.

A good tool for guitar wiring

The two-tier temperature system works well, though low tends to be a bit low for the heftier tabs on pots--in that case you can easily raise the temperature to get a nice shiny bead. The tip is very sharp and conical, so soldering to pot bodies requires some adjustment of technique if you are used to a chisel tip. The tip is great for the tiny tabs on compact components. The button for raising the temperature is convenient to use. I haven't used it for working on other equipment, but I don't see any reason why it would not be fine for almost all electronic soldering.

Like the turbo boost

This is a great soldering iron for the price. The turbo boost extra heat works good at heating pots. The body of the iron gets pretty warm when using it for extended periods but is still okay. It is very lightweight. I like the small point tip that comes with it. Overall it is good value for the money.
