Awesome as hell. A great component to have.

A good, solid. soldering stand. And the price is right. As others have noted, the sponge does tend to move around, but for me that's a small issue. I suppose a dab of CA glue might hold it in place.

I just received my second stand.

The first one was missing a part, the "L" bracket that attaches the holder to the base. Stewmac replaced the whole unit free of charge and let me keep the first one. Spare parts if needed. They even sent it fully fedexed to Canada (received it 2 days after the first one), which was not neccessary but a very very nice gesture on their part. Customer service excellence.

The stand is solid and well balanced. Some people may want more weight in the base but i find if you don't tilt the holder too close to horizontal it is fine. Otherwise, it's nothing a small c clamp or a few superglued lug nut can't fix.

As for the sponge, a drop of C.A. on each top corner keeps it in place. You really only need to pull the tip to clean it.

Nice, solid, small footprint (my bench real estate is pretty limited) and customer service like i haven't seen elsewhere (first time i experience the need to contact c.s.) earns this 5 ?.

It is SUCH a convenience. A little more weight in the base could help

I purchased this along with the Solomon Turbo Heat soldering iron and after years of NOT utilizing a stand I can say...that's just DUMB. I gave it 4 stars only because the cleaning sponge is not positively placed and can move around while cleaning the iron tip. It would be nice if there were a lip or crimps to hold the thing in place instead of just an open tray.

I use this on the dining room table which doubles as my "shop" and it is perfect. It holds the iron firm and the sponge tray is ideal for ensuring a clean tip for all soldering jobs. Very sturdy and well made - a steal for the price.

It does hold the iron but you find yourself holding the sponge in place to clean the tip.

Exactly what i was looking for. It just do the job!
