Saved me from a bridge plate replacement.

My "D" string ball end had completely buried itself in the in the bridge plate. Some of the other strings had made their way close to that point. This quickly solved that problem. It did slightly change the sound, but I actually like it better. The tuning is more stable. I think the adhesive on the tape should be stronger as it did not adhere very well on its own. Some of the reviewers think that cost is an issue, but the time saved repairing this problem more than covers the cost.

Easy Fix

Before I used my Plate Mate I mixed Spruce dust with wood glue and filed the string holes up to the bridge. I put a backing on the bridge plate so I could force the dust/glue mixture into the wear gaps between the string holes of the bridge plate. Once dried I sanded smooth. This gave me a pretty solid bridge plate. I then bored the string holes. My Hondo H-21F had 2.5" string spacing but, the four inner string holes match perfectly. I made a small notch on the outside of the E holes for fit. Now I installed the Plate Mate for a strong, sturdy and long lasting bridge plate. It sounds awesome. Very lively. Thanks StewMac!

Good Product.

My 1964 Martin D-28 still has a good bridgeplate but I wanted to make sure that it stayed that way. The Plate Mate is good insurance. It can also extend the life of a worn bridgeplate.
As mentioned in another review, the peel-off contact paper that is on the Plate Mate is not sufficient to hold it in place while the unit is being installed, especially if you have a worn bridgeplate. I used a dab of Weldwood contact cement on each side of the Plate Mate and that held the unit in place during installation.
The only real negative that I would offer is the price. Considering what you receive, it's a bit much but then what isn't these days. All in all, I give the Plate Mate 5 stars.

Insurance

Having owned guitars with internal injuries from bad re-string jobs, I look at a Plate Mate as cheap insurance.
Why wouldn’t you install one?

Plate Mate saves the day!

I have a beloved Martin SP000-16T that had a torn out bridge plate from ball end strings. It got worse over the years so I placed the guitar on injured reserves and quit playing it. Then I heard about Plate Mate. I ordered one along with oversized bridge pins and the tapered pin reamer to set them. It all worked! The bridge plate problem is solved forever for $25 and my new pearl-dot bridge pins fit their holes perfectly. Now I'll order one for another Martin 000 so the bridge plate never tears out. Maybe all new guitars should come with it. Life is good again. Highly recommend.

OK

ell, this product is OK but the stick on is not strong enough. It is very over priced, however I was in a hurry and did want to take the time to make one. I only needed it to ground an Epiphone Paul Lennon reissue.

This product is a good fix for certain bridge problems, but is way overpriced for what it is!

I ordered the wrong one, but stewmac took it back and I then ordered the 2 3/16. Works great. It did add a little treble to the sound, but I like it! Thank you!

Plate Mate on 1952 LG3

I had to trim the ends to make it fit between washers on the bridge bolts, but this wasn't too difficult. It solved the problem of the string ball ends digging into the bridge plate and noticeably improved response and tone.

Great for worn bridge plate holes !

How about this for an old Fender acoustic, the string ends were coming too far through holes and hanging on bridge saddle and pulling it forward under tension, cured problem ,improved sustain also ! It's easy to install too ! This is a quick and economic fix that works !
