Spoke Nut Hot Rod Truss Rod

About This Item

Easy neck heel adjustment in electric guitars and basses. Smooth two-way action corrects upbow and backbow, giving complete control over the neck.

The 1/2"-diameter "spoke" nut is designed to protrude slightly from the heel of a bolt-on neck; you can insert a thin tool into the side of the nut to turn it, without pickguard removal.

Easy to install. The Hot Rod® fits in a straight channel. For proper operation, this truss rod must be installed so that the active rod (the rod with the adjustment nut) is below the passive rod. A wooden filler stick is not required.

Smooth 2-way action with superior strength for stubborn necks. Stainless steel adjustment rod corrects upbow and backbow.

Hot Rod's neck adjustment system features twin rods in threaded brass collars. The stainless steel active rod turns for smooth neck alignment, with 2-way action. The Hot Rod requires an access cavity for the adjustment nut, and a straight 7/32"-wide x 7/16"-deep slot (measured from the bottom of the fretboard) for installation. The 18.25" rod fits many electric guitars; the 24.25" rod fits basses. Overall length includes the nut.

We've designed the Router Bit for Hot Rod Truss Rods especially for routing your neck to fit our truss rods.

I only use these in builds. Just makes so much scence the way the are designed to have easy access. Also appreciate how stewmac improved the finished on the spoke after customer request. Thank you stewmac.

Fantastic!

I’ve been making my own truss rods for years. I’ve made Fender style, Gibson style, and double acting.

Today I installed one of these in ten minutes, and that includes the time I spent looking for my 1/4” straight cut bit. I could not believe how easy and fast it was.

My Preferred Truss Rod For Guitar Building.

I love the Spoke Nut Truss Rods, and have started using them in all the guitars I build. They are easier to adjust that conventional truss rods, and since the truss rod slot does not have to extend through the peg head, the wrist of the guitar is much stronger.

I install these upside down though, sprocket looks nicer closer to the top of FB. IMO.

Length is wrong

I have purchased a couple of these for guitars in the past and they are great. I recently purchased one for bass that I am making. Spec says that it is 24 inches long but the one I received was 24 1/4 inches long. This was too long for the 20 fret bass I was making. Fortunately I found it early enough and was able to change my bass design to have 21 frets.

Just reinforced my policy of having the parts in hand before I cut.

Bought two spoke wheel rods. Measuring them currently for my plans and both are off by 1/4th. glad i verified manually before i started cutting. No use in returning them as they work but will have to alter my templates a bit.

As usual, StewMac come through with top quality and quick delivery. The stainless steel adjustment rod and brass end blocks make for a great truss rod.

Works great, but too big

This IS a great quality truss rod. The spoke nut works great. Price isn't terrible, there are cheaper priced good ones on the market. The other thing I found is that the profile is too large which doesn't let you get a really thin neck profile. Just a warning out there to those wanting a very thing neck profile. Overall, not a bad product. Only gets 3 stars due to large profile and price.

I have used quite a few of these and find them very easy to access after the guitar is finished.

I had a lot of trouble with the neck moving with double sided tape routing the 7/32 router bit. I bough the base on line and the people cut it too close to the cut-out for the neck. I think I will have to start over. With no instruction only a set of plans it's tough.
