4mm Allen Nut Hot Rod Truss Rod

About This Item

A smaller 4mm (5/32") Allen nut for most instruments. Smooth two-way action corrects upbow and backbow, giving complete control over the neck.

Easy to install. The Hot Rod® fits in a straight channel. For proper operation, this truss rod must be installed so that the active rod (the rod with the adjustment nut) is below the passive rod. A wooden filler stick is not required.

Smooth 2-way action with superior strength for stubborn necks.
Our Hot Rod neck adjustment system features twin rods in threaded brass collars. The stainless steel active rod turns for smooth neck alignment, with 2-way action to correct upbow and backbow.

The Hot Rod requires an access cavity for the adjustment nut, and a straight 7/32"-wide x 7/16"-deep slot (measured from the bottom of the fretboard) for installation.

Seems good

This is my first truss rod purchase. The rod itself is well made and all of the components move nicely and smoothly and are in alignment as they should be. Don’t expect a shiny appealing looking adjustment nut though. I got the 4mm hex nut and it’s a very dull “raw” textured grey. Fit, functionality, and alignment are all spot on though and I have no doubts it will do it’s job for a lifetime. I just don’t like it when things don’t look like they do in the product photos. Am I being particularly picky about a non-functional portion of the rod that won’t be seen 99.9% of the time anyways? Absolutely. Is it going to stop me from using it? Not in the slightest. Just something for new builders to be aware of.

Good quality rod

Quality construction at a good price. Dimensions are right on, for a good fit in the neck.
Minor quibble: I wish the 14-1/4 length was over the acting portion, as opposed to overall.
The allen nut could then extend further into the body, as do other "14-" rods.

Great design

By

This truss rod is ideal because it requires very little wood removal to fit which is very important on banjos because of the slender neck. It is also designed to be installed either direction. I like to put the adjustment nut at the heel end of the neck so that I do not have to remove wood near the nut where the neck is weakest. Guitar makers may prefer other truss rods but this one fits the bill for banjo makers.

There's a reason so many people swear by these truss rods.

quick and easy

I like these TrussRods. They are easy to fit and use, once seated inside the Neck.

I don't make as many necks these days, but can certainly recommend these Truss Rods, as all the guitars I have built over the years have had absolutely no Truss Rod problems at all. I service nearly all of my builds and these Rods still work as good as the day they were fitted.

A time saver

I've made my own truss rods in the past. This is a time saver and a much smoother method of neck adjustment.

great for guitars

These are great truss rods but have a tight fit on Stew/Mac necks. However I made a fence from a spruce sound hole cut out and used it with my Stew/Mac sound hole and rosette jig and after several passes to the proper depth on both sides of the slot it fit perfect. Adjustments are as true as can be.

My go-to truss rod...

I have put this Hot Rod in 12 guitars now and in terms of price and performance, I don't think these can be beat. The low profile and low weight give great flexibility in terms of neck design and shape. Great design all around.

Hot Rod

These truss rods, time and again, perform extremely well -- and I have used a LOT of them. Quality construction, and the fact that they are light weight and two way make them the perfect choice for any instrument. Because I also make bouzoukis, with necks longer than a guitar, I need a rod that I can rely on, and this is it.
