Micro-Mesh Touch Up Stick

About This Item

Cushioned for a scratch-free mirror finish. Three Micro-Mesh® abrasives in one handy tool, about the size of a pencil.

Perfect for small touch-ups on glossy finishes, the Touch-up Stick is padded so it flexes and conforms gently to the work. We rely on these in our own shops for finish touch-ups and repairs.

The stick includes three Micro-Mesh grits on a padded core (5-3/4" x 1/2" size).

Black: 2400 grit
White: 4000 grit
Grey: 12000 grit

Micro-Mesh features tiny abrasive crystals on resilient cloth-backed latex. These gentle "cushioned" particles generate less heat and friction than ordinary finishing papers, don't load up as quickly, and last up to 15 times longer. Use Micro-Mesh with soapy water to produce a scratch-free mirror shine on finishes and pickguards. Great for repairing scratches and overspray. Use them for polishing frets, too.

Micro-Mesh was developed for polishing jet windshields to maintain their optical clarity. Imagine how your instrument will look!

What color is what grit?

By

Verified Buyer

The stick has a white, grey, and black section; What color corresponds to the 2400, 4000 and 12000-grit?

Response from StewMac

Hi John,

What a good question. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The grit corresponds to each color, i.e. the lighter the color, the lighter the grit. So the grey section has the 12,000-grit, the white section has the 4,000-grit, and the black section has the 2,400-grit.

Floppy

Straight in the hand, but bend with smallest pressure which I suppose is good for polishing bodies, but don't think you're going to file down fret edges with this (like I assumed). That said, I immediate found a use for them when I noticed some slop on the bottom edge of semi-hollow f-hole interiors. Sanded it off gently without wrecking the clear coat!

A nice addition to the fret file

I bought this in addition to a fret file to dress the fret ends on a new to me MIM Fender Telecaster. It did an outstanding job of polishing the fret ends.

Great little additions to any abrasive stock.
Makes life so much easier and quicker for any small touch up or general smoothing jobs, can be washed or used wet also giving extended life to the sanding sticks.

Making a Cheap Guitar Feel Great

By

I recently found my very first guitar and wanted to get it into playing shape. It had hidden and corroded away in it's case for 10 years in the back of a closet. Upon getting it back into working order, I really noticed just how sharp and stabbing the fret ends were. Went through and smoothed them out with this and it made an unreal difference!

A great item for the tool box

These touch up sticks are incredible. They do an amazing job when polishing the fret ends. The Mighty Mite neck I got for a bass project had fret sprout. I knew I needed to clean them up or I'd cut my hand while trying to play on it. After filing down (used the 6" file in conjunction tiny file used to remove the bur) I finalized the look with the Micro-Mesh. Now I know I could have gone to Walmart and bought something similar, but I've learned the hard way (and expensive ways) that I need the right tools to do the job. If you buy poor quality, I have found that your final product will look bad.

These Micro-mesh Touch-Up sticks delivered great results, and I highly recommend them!!
