ZerO Glide Nuts

About This Item

The easy way to install a nut, and accurate string height is built in.

Better tuning, better open string tone
The zero fret approach reduces string contact in the nut by 93%. Strings glide freely on the polished fret, and return to tune fast and reliably.

No modification needed
No cutting or changing your guitar. You can switch back to your conventional nut if you ever feel like it. Fretboard radius is not an issue: choose the ZerO Glide that fits your guitar, and the zero fret flexes to conform to your fretboard.

Available preslotted for most string spacings, and unslotted for any situation.

Upgrade option! ZerO Glide now available in stainless steel
ZerO Glide now offers stainless steel zero frets, available separately. You can easily install these frets in your existing Zero Glide nut, or add them to a new installation.

Simpler than making a nut from scratch
Making a traditional nut is tricky: it means cutting six string slots, each to a perfect depth. The ZerO Glide is so much easier: the built-in zero fret sets all the string heights at once, uniformly. The precut string slots are only needed for string spacing.

Swap out your existing nut
ZerO Glide is a direct replacement, with sizes to fit a wide range of guitars and banjos. You get four frets of different heights, to match the frets on your guitar. These are of a special nickel silver alloy that's harder and longer-wearing than conventional frets.

The zero fret sits at the exact right point for accurate intonation. Tuning is smoother too, as the strings glide across the polished fret surface.

"It was an improvement on my banjo... It actually means the nut sounds exactly like the fretted notes. So if you're doing music like I do, where you're going back and forth from open to closed strings in different places up and down the neck, having them sound exactly the same is an improvement. I found it was a fuller sound. I'm a fan of that."
Bela Fleck, Banjoist and Composer

"It's a totally logical way to do a string nut. If you want exactly the same tone on an open string and a fretted string, there's nothing quite like putting a fret there."
Rick Turner, Rick Turner Guitar Company

Easy install with fantastic results

By

I have a Yamaha F310 and the nut was cut real high. Looking around on the internet I came across the ZerO Glide and decided to give it a try. It was less expensive that having the nut cut or purchasing the tools to do it. Printed out the sizing chart and found the ZS-5 had the correct spacing. In less than an hour my guitar felt and sounded great. This is one hell of a product and glad I made the purchase

Technical Advice

This is not mentioned anywhere in the tutorial videos and materials and is mentioned in only one place I have found on the manufacturer's website. The fret wire in these kits is custom. It has an Offset Tang. If you look at it from underneath it has a Narrow Shoulder and a Wide Shoulder. There's not a lot of difference so you have to pay attention. Be sure to install the fret wire with the Wide Shoulder over the Fretboard/Fingerboard. This will ensure the Zero Fret conforms to the Fingerboard Radius properly. This is a great product but, like most guitar items, attention to detail is important.

Great product

I've installed several of these now and expect to use more. They are not incredibly difficult to install, far easier than filling string slots in a nut although neck relief become far more critical. The ZS-3 Martin nut is the model you'll need for the StewMac P and 335 model guitar kits. These necks are made to the old 1940s Gibson or modern day Epiphone width which is halfway between a Strat and a Les Paul nut width. I love them. I've been lucky. Most of my favorite guitars, from my first Hofner as a teenager to my Gretsch's all had zero frets. I was spoiled from day one. As they say, "Try it. You'll like it." Byron Stafford, Arizona

A really nice improvement in tone.

By

Verified Buyer

I've put these Zero-Glide nuts on my Tele and Les Paul, and am getting ready to put them on my Eastwood Delta Six resonator and an acoustic guitar. Obviously, I'm a fan.

You have to be careful installing them to get the proper angle established from the new nut over and across the metal Zero-Glide fret. The nut guides the string, but you want the latter to rest primarily on the metal Zero-Glide fret. When you do, the tone really opens up nicely.

Try them; you like 'em.

I bought the Zero Glide nut because I had a dead string on a guitar that I built and was out of options . After seeing the design and using the product for the first time , the Zero Glide nut will go on every guitar that I build from now on . Stew Mac has what I need when I need it even before I know that i need it . Thank you Stew Mac for the amazing customer Service

I love it

I bought this for a Washburn Oscar Schmidt OE-40B archtop guitar, on which the nut had broken when putting on new strings. I always wanted to try a zero-fret nut and was pleasantly surprised at how well it works. Perfect string height and tone.

I was having a very hard time finding the right nut replacement for my mandolin. Finally found this one at StewMac. Have never used the zero glide before, but this one works great. Had a good deal of sanding to do for a perfect fit, but it works great and sound is super on my mando. Thanks guys!!

Fixes buzz but how long will it last?

By

Verified Buyer

Pros: defiantly kicks any fret buzzing issues and intonation problems!

Cons: the frets provided are supposed to be 5...my package had 4. the size i needed WAS in the 4 that came so not a big deal.

after filing the nut edges down so they cant snag anything (especially in and out of carry cases for gigs) I have developed a small crack on the low E side of the nut. the nut material is literally cut in half for space for the fret so its VERY delicate. If this came with a fret and brass nut we'd really be in business!

after 2 weeks of play the fret provided has been significantly dented from the string pressure. Not sure if this will cause problems down the road but its curious that after only 2 weeks I could see indentations from all 6 strings.

these should come with stainless steel frets no matter what IMO. they would last a lifetime that way. stainless steel fret and a brass but...BINGO.

In conclusion it still killed that buzz and my action is better that ever before so as long as the nut doesn't chip away im good!
