Tried & True Original Wood Finish

About This Item

Simple, environmentally friendly
An easy to apply oil finish that protects the wood and keeps it clean. The smooth satin result is perfect for players that don't want the feel of a finish on their necks.

No solvents, no VOC's and nature made
Tried & True uses 18th century techniques and all-natural linseed oil and beeswax to make this environmentally safe finish. It has low odor, so it doesn’t stink up your shop.

A little bottle that goes a long way
Unlike traditional finishes, a thicker viscosity keeps this finish from being messy and running during application. Thin coats are the key to good results. Additional coats give the look more depth, and it can be used over wood that has already been stained.

Apply a thin coat with a lint-free cloth and allow to penetrate for 1 hour. Work the finish into the wood until the surface is dry to the touch. Let cure for at least 24 hours and burnish with a soft cloth or steel wool.

2-ounce bottle or 1 pint can.

This stuff is great, easy to apply. Sanded with 1000 grit, applied small amount. Let sit for an hour or two then buff. Did 2 coats and results are fantastic

Great For Neck Finishing

A lot of my customers who order custom builds from me, don't like gloss nitro finishes on their necks. The Tried and True oil finished neck has been a favorite amongst my customers.

Fast ship, easy process.. the product gave my bass a great finish. Very settled over the aging of the wood. After it dries out it is smooth specially in the back of the neck. Well recommended.

Great for what I've used it for!

I've never finished a guitar with the stuff, but this much I can tell you- If you've got an old instrument with a blonde natural finish that has mellowed to a honey-ish color, and it has chips or scrapes, you can fill the damage with clear or lightly colored urethane on a toothpick or Q-tip, let it dry thoroughly, sand it lightly with 400 and then rub a little bit of this stuff into the sanded part. the repair will look about the same age as the rest of the guitar. It's amazing.

The wood will decide

Mahogany and Maple are very different woods. I used this product on a mahogany body and a maple neck. In both cases I applied a thin coat. The maple being dense and tight grain used very little. The mahogany is porous and used more. Use no more than it takes to cover lightly. After 12 hours wipe down good. After another day or so buff. If you do this right a 2nd coat is not necessary it just makes the wood oily.

Beautiful finish

Easy to use. Very satisfying. I did three coats as directed. Can easily be done in a apartment with very low smell. I left my bass body in the heat outside 4 hours each coat, then wiped it down to a luster. Mine is a total custom body, so it was tough to make a decision about the finish. I am so glad I chose this exposing the natural wood tones. Looks high end professional. Not just for guitars and basses.

Great for an antique finish

My days of spraying nitro or other toxic finishes are over; the environmental cost is too high. I now use as close to natural products as I can ever find, over open grain. Tried and True does a marvelous job at bringing that silky look to woods, and if applied in thin coats it won't sweat like some similar products. I do not recommend it over stains if the intention is for a crisp finish; this oil wants to spread colors around, and even wash them off, but for an antique look, it does a fab job at blending tones, and the results are often stunning. Best is to try on scraps first.
