Great product for some applications .

I purchased this product to cover a guitar body that I painted with rattle cans and to use on touch up's or small repairs . I had read some of the reviews and knew to be careful how to apply it . The reviews using a foam brush had problems with bubbles under the surface . I used an old T shirt first but after too much lint from edges I will use lint free wipes used in the body shop industry from now on . It worked on my guitar body but I used almost 2 bottles on a Tele body from sanding and recoating . It looks good and I am pleased with the results .

I'm not sure how many guitars you can finish with one bottle, but I intend to find out. I'm loving this product.

Easy gloss shine!

I have been using this stuff for a long time to achieve great glossy finishes. After level sanding the water based finish with 320 grit, I apply overlaying coats with a pad similar to that used for French Polish. I apply these layers with the grain, in straight parallel lines, making sure to slightly overlap the previous stroke. With 3 hour intervals, I repeat the process 4 to 6 times. Then I leave it to dry properly for 5 days. I then use 3000 grit Abralon abrasive pads to level any possible uneven areas, after which I buff out to a high gloss finish.

Will smear non-colorfast stains; took me FOREVER to build up sufficient thickness

By

Like one of the reviewers below, I found that this product smeared a stain that had been applied beneath it. After rubbing in a very nice sunburst with the Colortone liquid stains thinned with alcohol, I applied the wipe-on poly with a foam brush and found that it caused the stain to smear and bleed. (I had even talked with a StewMac rep beforehand, who assured me that the liquid stains were colorfast and wouldn't smear. This was very much not accurate.) I noticed the problem quickly and managed to finish the first coat of poly being careful to minimize smearing. I then went back and touched up the sunburst with the liquid stains thinned with the poly rather than with alcohol, so that it would be colorfast to subsequent coats. It ended up looking awesome, but I was pretty freaked out for a few minutes there.
Also, it took me FOREVER to build up sufficient thickness. Not sure if there was a problem with my technique or what (this was my first time trying something like this), but it took me literally 20 coats, wet-sanding two or three times along the way, to get a finish that is literally paper-thin.
Ultimately I was happy with the results, and I am ordering the product a second time, but there are some issues to be aware of.

Poly finish

The only thing I struggled with during finishing was achieving a gloss finish I was happy with. Ended up with several coats being flattened back to satin finish.

First time user, came out great!!!!

It could've came out better but i made a few rookie mistakes that are not the fault of the product.
If i do this again i will use a good synthetic brush rather than the cotton balls wrapped in piece of old T-shirt as too many nubbs formed from the cloth.
Second, it does go on thin, and while the instructions say to apply it in "thin" coats, there really is no definition as to what "thin" is....i eventually found putting it on just thick enough to where you have to worry about "runs" is about right...just make sure to catch them before they start to cure.
After using the whole bottle for about 13 coats, including the two coats mixed with Colortone Blue Stain, i let it sit for a week.
Then i carefully level sanded with 800, then 1200 and finally with 800 grit sandpapers.
It's here that i sanded too far in just a few spots, but i put that on me...i will know better next time.
What really finally made everything awesome was the Colortone Polishing compounds....Medium, then Fine and finally Swirl Remover.....applied with the sponge rotary applicators that you insert into your drill.
That was the final cherry on top.
The guitar came out looking 90 to 95% store bought.
I'm very happy with it.
