Mixol Universal Tints

About This Item

The world's most versatile tints
Make any color you want in ANY finish you want.

Traditionally pigments are formulated to combine with nitrocellulose OR waterbase laquers, but Mixol can do both! Mixol tinting pastes are concentrated and finely ground pigments with no binder—meaning they are pure, straight color.

With no binder these pigments readily mix with any finish: nitrocellulose, polyurethane, shellac, waterbased finishes, oil-based lacquers, even fillers and epoxies.

Make any color you can dream
Mixol tints create vibrant solid or translucent colors, no matter what finish you mix them with. They are miscible (mix together readily) with each other—you can create truly any color you want. Mix well for best results.

Unlike a stain, Mixol must be added to something to be used. Because these tints are highly concentrated, a little goes a long way. We've found Mixol mixes well with nearly anything, but always test on scrap before applying. Not recommended to mix with super glues.

Yellow tint is not compatible with epoxy

By

Verified Buyer

Although maybe not the primary intended use, I found that the yellow tint turns a dark caramel color when mixed with the two-part clear epoxy I use for inlays. I haven't experimented with other epoxies, but the ColorTone yellow tint for lacquer retains it's bright yellow color in the same epoxy that the Mixol didn't mix with. Also, I probably should have looked closer when I ordered, but these are really small bottles compared to the ColorTone bottles.

Nice colors

I had a very hard time removing the grains of undisolved pigment, You must let it disolve for 30 minutes. It must be strained 3 times before adding to the paint gun. Beware when using the gold or silver it stays in the gun and specks show up in the clear coats. This product reminds me of powder dyes. I prefer the Stewmac liquid dyes that desolve instantly. Test it first. I had to quickly wipe a maple Tele neck with lacquer thinner, after speck flew out of the 1.4 mm aircap and switch back to the stewmac dye.

Great colors and easy to use

I think Mixol colors are great and glad they have added to the Stewmac line ...but be careful with sediment when mixed in Nitro lacquer ...I recommend straining thru a filter before putting into your sprayer and use a strainer insert on your gun as well
