Pot Cleaning Cap

About This Item

The easiest way to clean noisy control pots, without extracting them from a guitar, amp, or stomp-box!

Works for rotary switches and Gibson Varitone switches, too. The cap directs your cleaner right where it's needed, inside the pot housing on the contacts around the shaft. No mess!

"An absolute must for vintage F-hole instruments. Every guitar shop needs to have at least one."
—John Brown, Brown Guitar Factory

Simply remove the control knob, and screw the Pot Cleaning Cap on the shaft. An access hole guides your spray cleaner extension tube directly to the pot shaft. The cleaner flows down the shaft to where it's needed on the contacts inside the pot. A hole in the top of the cap lets you turn a split pot shaft with a screwdriver for thorough coverage.

Works with 3/8 x 32-thread, made in USA potentiometers: CTS, Allen-Bradley, Bourns, CentraLab, Clarostat, and others. It's not compatible with imported or metric-thread control pots (like Alpha).

Pot Cleaning Cap is made from precision machined stainless steel.

We recommend DeoxIT Pot & Switch Cleaner.

TIP: Aerosol contact cleaners can spray cold, and can potentially crack a guitar's finish. Always protect the finish with a cloth when cleaning pots and switches.

Concentrates that De-Oxit or whatever where it's supposed to go and not all over the project. It's a tiny thing ,but how big is a pot shaft?

It came in a package with the companies name on it. For the life of me I cannot find that package sadly. I was going to look up the company to see if there were any other sizes they made and where I could order them. C'est La Vie I s'pose.
Works a treat for any 3/8" pots! It will not fit 8mm or other sizes.

Good pot cleaning tool

Although this pot cleaning cap did not screw into my Gibson Es-135 gothic guitar, I still was able to spray into the pots. The cap did its job, although I would have preferred it screwed into my pots.

I bought this as a last resort to replacing the volume pot on my fathers 1960 Gretsch Jet firebird and it worked extremely well.

Should have some directions

This is a very creatively engineered product, which can make a messy job much neater or much messier. This was my experience:

1) most importantly, be certain that the spray nozzle on the can is adjusted to the lowest setting! I did not do this the very first time I used it, and the spray shot out everywhere.
2) This little piece is designed with an open hole on the top. I can only assume it is for some kind of pressure relief, since it is too small for an extended pot shaft to pass through, and much larger than the hole on the side for the spray tube. At any rate, be sure to cover this hole with your finger or the spray will shoot out of it.
3) When you dispense the spray, press very slowly on the nozzle, releasing when the can releases a bit of fluid. If you just push the nozzle down, the spray will shoot out all over the place.
4) The threads are standard American 3/8-16 threads. If your guitar or amp does not have American made pots, this tool won’t screw on.
