Lots of good info and tips. More importantly, good info that might keep you from doing something stupid to your guitar in an effort to "fix" it.
This book is far better than the know-it-alls on the internet that are more often wrong than right!

This book is full of really useful information, written in a straightforward, easy to understand style. I've recently assembled a Trev Wilkinson Tele and I wish I'd had this book then. It explains how the various components work and how to adjust them. I'd recommend it to anyone starting off building guitars or wants to tweak their guitar.

I read many new ways to do setups that greatly improved playability on several of my guitars.

This book is more than a coffee table decoration. Bought two copies, one for my son-in-law, one for me. I've been playing since 1959. He's been playing three decades fewer...but there is new knowledge for both of us. A real expert with huge credentials, a half hour's drive from me, lends information that you can't buy.

I own other set up books, but this one gets much more in depth on the reason for doing things a certain way as well as many different techniques to get your guitar in the best playing shape possible. Would recommend this book. Even for shops currently doing set ups. Very comprehensive. See

Good reference

The book will be handy to have as a reference. I play a Godin Montreal, but the information based on Erlewine's work on other makes and models --- Gibson, Fender, etc. --- will help me make decisions about what I want or don't want done to the Godin. Be careful who you loan this to!

Should be included with every guitar

By

Nuts and bolts knowledge to take care of your own instrument. Will save a your time and money for the things patient people can do them selves, and even more because you'll know when to hand it off to a pro and how to know if the repair person knows what their doing. I have been given many guitars over the years because they were "unplayable", and using the basic set up procedures have caused the owners to want them back.
