Electric Guitar & Bass Making & Marketing

About This Item

By Leonardo Lospennato
The only book that tells you how to build a guitar with professional standards, and how to promote your guitars afterwards.

It starts with setting up and organizing your workshop. Will you build one guitar a year, or one hundred? You'll learn woodworking techniques, followed by clear explanations of how to apply an oil or lacquer finish. Guitar electronics are covered, along with assembly and setup procedures.

What really makes this book valuable is the last section, Marketing for Luthiers. You'll learn about shows, displays, and brand identity. Not sure how much to charge? What about social media? This book will give you some great guidelines.

"I only wish I had this book to consult with 35 years ago when I first became interested in instrument design. I could have saved myself many heartbreaking mistakes!" — Ned Steinberger, musical instruments designer

Actually I've only begun to read this book. I did browse through some of the chapters and I've already picked up a couple things that have made the purchase price worthwhile.
Yes I would recommend

Informative book

Although I consider myself pretty knowledgeable on the basics of building a guitar, I found this book had some different ways to do things. More importantly, I found the information and advice on the marketing and designing to be helpful. Well written and occasionally amusing. I feel there will always be more to learn.

Watched a lot of Youtube videos on building a guitar. This book definitely fills in any gaps and provides a lot of other useful tips and information.

I have been following Leonardo Lospennato for some time on Facebook. He is not just another, let's copy what's already been done a million times, lutheirs. His designs and build style is more unique than average, and I applaud him for that. The book was far better than I could ever imagine, as I grew up in the music retail, resale, repair industry. To see a book that had new information in it after 35 years in luthrie was refreshing, and just wonderful.

If you have any interest in building, even if it's something you might do years from now, buy this book. It's a very good overview of everything you need to know. I think it's a great resource even for people who do repair work and have no interest in building, because the background knowledge is invaluable.
