Unbleached Bone Saddles

Unbleached Bone Saddles

Stewart-MacDonald is your source for quality bone!
Bone is traditionally favored for quality instruments. Our unbleached bone is harder than bleached white bone, and has a mottled cream vintage look. Its hardness and density contributes to good tone, it polishes well, and it allows more precise filing.

Blank saddles have oversize length and height, for custom shaping in your shop. They're ready for trimming, filing, sanding and slotting.

Shaped saddles will save you a LOT of work—a head start for the novice, and a timesaver for the busy shop. The sizes have been carefully researched, and accurately radiused, so that minor trimming, slotting, and sanding are usually all you'll need to do.

Good news: our super-hard unbleached bone saddles are available with B-string compensation too, so you'll save even more time!

Unbleached Bone Sadldles

I am using this on an Ibanez classical guitar. The thickness is perfect ,and will only have to shorten the length, and adjust the height. I’m doing this to lower the height of the strings. I bought two and plan on trying two different heights of the strings and see which improves the playability the most.

The real thing

Shimming didn‘t work—so a new bridge saddle was the answer. The unbleached material sanded perfectly and looks like the old one.

It was unbleached, it was bone. A little work and it was fine.

Gibson saddle

First time ever attempting a guitar repair on a late 1930’s Gibson L-O handed down from my wife’s uncle. Wish I’d done it 50 years ago! Astonishing improvement in volume, sustain and intonation. About 30 minutes of cutting and filing. Easy job for this novice.

Quality Bone.

I love the way these look and would only use bleached in situations where the look made the customer happy. I feel as though the bleaching process denigrates the bone quality. Probably just my hippy attitude toward bleach! The bleached bone worked great when I have used it. This is better in my opinion.

It's generous in length, and accurate to the other dimensions. Made of bone. Got here quick.

Changed the sound of my guitar

Even with Covid situation they shipped it the next day. The saddles are great and have changed the sound of my guitars!
My only complaint (not really a complaint) was that I wasn't expecting the saddles to be this long. Maybe its the industry standard. I had to whittle them down to right length to fit my bridge. The thickness was perfectly matched.

Didn’t work for me.

I was looking for a drop-in replacement for one of my Martins. This is not that. Return and credit was no problem though.
