Micarta Saddle, 1/8" blank

About This Item

Softer than bone, and files easily. Micarta is an excellent synthetic bone substitute.

Specified by Martin for nuts and saddles since the 1960s. Ivory in color and a bit softer than bone, it files and sands easily and gives a uniform tone. Its uniform density is ideal for use with undersaddle transducer pickups. Each blank has a flat bottom surface; shaping and slotting required.

Workable Material

I found the Micarta Saddle blank was comfortable to cut with a fine-tooth saw then sand to match the outline I sketched with a fine pencil. The original saddle broke when pulling it out of the bridge. I glued it back into one piece well enough to outline on an index card.

I needed a nut for my 43 years old 10 string Chapman Stick. I think mine is made of plastic or something similar. It had degraded. I usually look high and low on Ebay for the parts I need. Lately
I have been coming back to Stew Mac. I watch all the Youtube videos. Where do you get a nut for a 43 year old Chapman Stick? The stick website does not offer them. I was watching a Stew Mac video and saw the saddle replacement. An idea struck. It was a little too long. Height and width were perfect. I cut it to size and there you go. Now when I need parts like this I come back to Stew Mac. Keep going with the videos. No matter how basic or advanced. I get something out of every one. Thanks Steve S

No more strings buzzing on my classical

I bought this for my Cordoba C5-CETBK Classical, I had a buzzing on my G and B strings due to the previous loose saddle, this one is blank/big, so you can shape and reduced it to a tight fit, no more strings buzzing and great tone!

I bought this to use on an acoustic repair, but when i got the guitar inthe shop, it ended up being way too thick. Still good to have around.

Micarta is micarta. If you want authentic, or like you use it. It's not the linen Gibson Micarta.

This is whatever CF Martin used. Micarta is cloth or textile impregnated into a resin base. It is kind of soft, and makes for a great strumming rhythm acoustic guitar. It will tame some bright guitars, and on others it keeps string volume consistent. Gibson used Micarta in the 1960s, and you can see the cloth inside the resin. This is not quite the same, but the tone is very similar. It clogs files, so have a brass wheel brush and a Dremel on hand. It carves, shaves, files, grinds sands polishes, & shapes up just beautifully. If you can't work with it, try becoming a cabinet maker, or a plumber. I am super happy Stewmac carries Micarta blanks, & nuts!
