First upgrade on all my guitars

These are great! It allows me to do my own setup work without having to buy a full set of nut files. And they make an immediate, easy to hear, improvement to sound on any instrument. Unless you bought a high dollar custom shop guitar with a real bone nut, this should be your first step before even plugging in your guitar.

Great upgrade for cheap kit guitar

The stock plastic nut that came with the kit was filed too low and caused string buzz on the high e and b strings. I tried to shim it, but it didn’t work since the string slots were uneven.
With the new pre-slotted nut I just needed to sand the sides to fit the neck width (string spacing was perfect since I used the printed StewMac guide to check before ordering). Then I sanded the bottom flat until the string height and intonation was correct. Now it is the best playing $100 kit guitar you could hope to find.

Good Product

I installed this nut on my old Strat copy that had a plastic nut, which broke (#1 E string corner) and then came out in pieces. It fit perfectly and I didn't even have to file the slots. The action is spot-on and the tone is great...noticeably better. Also the sustain is better.
I'm very pleased....thanks Stew-Mac.

This is for a neck that is getting a new fret board and replacing a plastic nut. I'm sure it will sound great and give me the tone I'm looking for.

Great product!

Installed this on an early 2000's Harmony Sovereign reissue (Buck Owens red, white and blue) to replace the horrible plastic nut it came with. Had to file it down a little on each end, but otherwise it fit well. Carefully lowered the string slots with my Stew-Mac nut files, and it turned out very well! Improved tone as well.

Quality tone in 42mm!

I bough this to upgrade my Strat-o-copy (you know, Asian made); it was a gift from my wife. I just like how it sounds (presumably basswood) and the 12” radius neck is fantastic. So It only needed a new nut (I had upgraded it with stacked pickups, steel bridge saddles, locking tuners, mint pickguard, the usual upgrades). Yes, it needed some final trimming (I just copied the existing plastic nut and voilá!). The change was noticeable from the first chord: it sounds a bit darker, with great sustain on lead work and with harmonics. Do your Asian-made guitar a favor and put one of these, you won’t regret!
