Titebond Liquid Hide Glue

About This Item

Hide glue in convenient ready-to-use liquid form. It forms strong joints, but allows joint disassembly with a hot knife.

Shelf life is 12-18 months if stored in a cool, dry location. Titebond® Liquid Hide Glue includes an expiration date on the bottle, because it can progressively lose its ability to dry hard, and this change is not visually obvious.

Using three different glues: where and why?

Titebond or hide glue? Hot glue or bottled? Dan Erlewine uses three glues for this repair, and each has different properties. He explains why one glue can't cover all the bases. And he's created some pretty interesting cauls for clamping this job together while it dries!

Hide Glue rocks

And I think it really does turn very much rock hard. I've found it great to work with. Nice time to work it and it cleans with warm water almost perfectly oozing out of bonds etc.

4oz bottle was perfect for bridge replacement. Cleans up easily with damp cloth.

It's really good for quick jobs, when you don't want to bother with hot glue.

I have been using this for over a decade now and will never go back to the glue pot. Works every bit as good, clean up and dispensing is much easier and the shop doesn't smell all day.

Restored 1958 vintage archtop neck set

By

Verified Buyer

Was able to attach the neck on my older 1958 Hofner Senator archtop guitar. Neck had become loose and once strings were removed, I was able to remove the entire neck without damage. Cleaned the area for gluing on both the body and neck. Applied hide glue to both areas, clamped them together and let them clamped for 48 hours. That was it. Restrung guitar and started playing. Great product for guitar repair and maintenance.

have always wanted to try hide glue but didn't want the hot pot on the bench. And think this is a great glue to have around for those jobs that take a little extra time.

great for gluing bridges!

By

I am a pro luthier from Napoli - Italy and I have used this glue for several years.
It is a great overall glue. So much easier to use than hot hide glue but almost as strong.

PROs: it is easy to use, easy to clean, strong and reliable.
Easy to disassemble even if hot hide glue is even easier.
It is strong enough for gluing classical guitar bridges

CONs: amount of urea and antioxidant is not very consistent so sometimes it takes ages to dry (too much urea) requiring clamping time up to 4 days for highly stressed joints.
Sometimes there is so much anti-oxidant that it penetrates the wood. this helps bondage reliability over time BUT can be a problem with picea spruce tops: it will result in an unoxidized "tattoo" of the top bracing on the outer side after a few years

Great Glue!

Working with this glue is easy and so is the cleanup. Very happy with the binding strength of the glue, the acoustical properties of the bond and the knowledge that disassembly is possible in the future if need be.

'Hide' in plain site

I wanted to fasten a DIY 12 string neck thinking Elmer's wood glue as usual. But I was still hedging about whether to go to urethane (Gorilla) glue or something else. I researched the best glue for 'setting a neck' and was directed to this product. I used it. It didn't produce the characteristic expansion bubbles at all. In fact, it set like amber. I found out it was water-based, so it cleaned up easy. By the same token, water will penetrate the glue joint if removing the neck becomes necessary. I will find out soon enough when the tension gives that baby a work out. It better hold, or I withdrawal every good word I said about it.
