ColorTone Powdered Grain Filler

About This Item

The first step to a flawless finish
ColorTone Powdered Grain Filler is the best choice for filling and leveling the pores of open-grain woods (like rosewood, ash, mahogany, and more) before finishing. Mix with water for the perfect consistency for any wood or job you have.

Custom mix to your exact needs
Our powdered filler works with all stains and finishes including nitro, poly, waterbase, varnish, shellac, and more. The filler won’t shrink or crack, it dries fast and sands easily. You can mix the powder as thick or as thin as you need. Using a contrasting filler color can often enhance the grain as well.

Everything you need for a factory look
  • Fills wood pores without sinking, shrinking, or cracking
  • Compatible with all finishes
  • Compatible with all stains, waterbase pigments, sealers, and topcoats
  • Colors developed especially for instruments
  • Neutral is perfect for custom tinting with ColorTone Stains and Pigments
  • Easy to apply, dries fast, and sands easily
  • Non-toxic, solvent-free, and nonflammable

ColorTone Powdered Grain Filler is supplied as a fine powder, ready to mix with water (a 1:2 ratio of water to filler works for us). Apply to the wood, scrape or squeegee off excess, let it dry, sand the surface level, and clean with a damp cloth. It's that easy! Now you're ready to spray a smooth blemish-free professional finish.

No shelf-life to worry about—when stored dry, the filler will last indefinitely.

6-ounce (170ml) resealable pouch.

Best grain filler I've ever used, everything about it is spot on, it mixes, spreads and sands perfectly.
I can't recommend it enough.

good stuff ,practice with it

I studied guitar at a Gibson service center in 1980 . We had the best filler there. I don't remember the brand etc, but it was messy and hard work, but it was great stuff. This product if mixed right is very close to that. It is not as dark as factory Gibson mix, so you may need to tint it. You may also need to grain fill 2 to 3 times if you want a true level grain fill. This is really hard work for me , as I'm in my mid 60's now, so you need good arms ,and not afraid of hard work. This is a good product and very close to being like a factory style filler.

Color Enhancer - Grain Filler

By

For what I wanted, to enhance the natural color of a solid mahogany guitar body, as well as make the grain pattern show a bit more, I found that I had to dilute the mixture a bit more than the "on the package" instructions. Ultimately a 1:1 ratio of water to powder worked best for for me. I applied with a brush and wiped the excess off with a clean white rag after a couple of minutes. I lightly sanded between applications. I applied 3 coats.

Achieving an uncommon color

This new (to me) product made matching a transparent North Carolina Tar Heel blue possible with great figure enhancement on a "mild burst" Les Paul. It took care of the 2% yellow element nicely in the Pantene code nicely making the transparent coats much easier.

GOOD STUFF

This filler mixed well and filled extremely well. Only thing not stressed is this powder is white. My mix with red stain looked red, but when it dried it was very pink. It also would not take a stain once it dried. Use a lot more stain than you think you should when you mix.

Not thrilled with the rosewood’s color

By

I’ve been buying Stew Mac products for more than 12 years with very few complaints. However- I think the final color they show for the medium rosewood grain filler isn’t even close to accurate. This was my first time using grain filler and I made the assumption that using the color that supposedly matched the rosewood I am using for an acoustic guitar build would match. Not even close- it dried MUCH LIGHTER than the wood. So I’ve ordered ebony to blend it darker. I have spent hours sanding off the original fill so it doesn’t look so horrible when I finish this guitar. Extra expense and a lot of extra work. You guys need to do a better job with the description of this product.

VERY GOOD

I bought the Neutral, because i wanted white grain, it works very well, i fell it a little on the expensive side, but if you are carefull you can make it last for several guitars. It's good that you can regulate the thickness.
I do recommend it.
