Soldered in our Athens, Ohio shop
We professionally hand-soldered these harnesses using the best brand-name components for long life and great sound: CTS pots, Orange Drop® caps, Switchcraft™ toggle switch and output jack and cloth push-back wire.

Tested and 100% Guaranteed
Each Golden Age harness comes to you mounted on a reusable plywood template, which is a tool in itself: save it for future wiring jobs. The template holds the components correctly so the finished harness fits neatly into the guitar's wiring cavity.

Some simple soldering is needed to connect the switch and jack after you've threaded the wires through the guitar channels. Pickup lead wires will also need to be soldered to the harness.

Epiphone - 96 Korean Les Paul

Definitely a few challenges for a novice like me, but overall this kit is fantastic. The issues I had, that maybe you can avoid in a similar guitar...First, I ordered the long shaft pots and definitely didn't need them. Was able to resolve by using washers on the back side to limit how far the shaft poked out. Luckily i had plenty of cavity depth, so that worked out fine. Unlike other reviews, the switch did fit in my switch cavity, but it was tight and took some work to get it in right. The mounting hole diameter of the pots says 3/8", but i found that wasn't quite enough and had to wiggle the drill a bit to expand the hole slightly above 3/8". I had to do the same to get the jack through the existing jack plate on my guitar. Otherwise, this was my first time using the pushback wire, and it took some time to get used to it, but once you figure it out, it's super easy. Otherwise, the components are top notch and my guitar sounds better than ever...especially since I replace the pickups at the same time SD Phat Cats (also highly recommend those). good luck!

Sounds great!

Replaced a circuit board with this kit, with treble bleeds, and I could not be happier with the result. The guitar sounds bright and alive now, not muddy. Be sure to check the pickup wiring on the board and write it down, the two pickups are not wired the same. Just saying, you can look under the board to see which wires are to be combined. Good luck.

I bought the prewire kit for my les paul style body that I am building.. the potentiometer and soldering was wonderful. Went in the guitar really nice...
The switch however was the wrong type. It was a tall switch, which did not fit this body. I needed the shorter switch. I contacted customer service and they said that they don’t make the prewired switch harness with the short switch... I would need to buy a short switch and change it out myself.
I was a little disappointed. I ordered a short switch , which I found from another source, at a lower price than stewmac offered.
Since stewmac offers both switches separately and sell parts for epiphone and les Paul jr bodies I’m surprised you wouldn’t offer the rewired short switch for these guitars as well

Thanks
Mike

Golden Age wire harness

only 4 stars cause the switch gave me a fair amount of heartache...after wiring everything according to the schematic there was buzz like you couldn't believe. I was upgrading a Korean Les Paul with conductive paint shielding in all the cavities...the switch was a little too large for the size of the rout and also I had to modify the switch tip to get the switch to "latch" securely in Neck or Bridge position. It would tend to pop out of position back to the middle. After pulling it out of the circuit and putting the original Korean switch back in the guitar was quiet and perfect. I understand this may have not been the right switch for an import Les Paul but the lack of locking in Neck and Bridge was in addition to the incessant buzz from the original Switchcraft switch....I suspect the outer braids contacting the shielding paint may also have contributed to a horrific ground problem. Otherwise great harness with top quality wire, solder joints and pots. just a heads up about switches for imports....

Good tone but...

I'm getting great tone from this kit paired with a set of Seymour Duncan Seth Lover in my Gibson Les Paul Tribute. But one of the orange drops was not working and the switch wire was extremely long. The kit is for a Les Paul so I don't understand why the wire wasn't the right length.

Purchased a Gibson les Paul body (a real Gibson) and needed some high quality electronics to go in it these are top quality and I hear no difference between the Les Paul that uses these and my other Gibson Les Paul that is all original these are great!

This kit was easy to install and you need some skill with the soldering iron. I transformed a 2017 Les Paul standard by yanking the PCB out and this kit in. Thanks for a quality product!!

Perfect with two minor aesthetic issues

StewMac was great and the package arrived exactly on time. Packaged well. The Golden Age kit was well organized and the instructions pretty good. I was completing an overhaul of my 1991 Gibson Les Paul Studio. Combining the Golden Age wiring harness with new custom Brandon Wound 59 Clone PAF pickups. Not an expert so this made me pretty nervous, especially the soldering. I did find a YouTube video that walked it through step be step which was quite helpful. The parts went in perfectly and every soldered up nicely. The tone sounds great with the new wiring and pickups. Really good! Three minor issues:
- shrink tube for cable management should be included at this price
- the knob on the 3 way switch is weird yellow orange and should be white or black. I had to order a replacement.
- the nut on the 3 way switch is silver/nickle and all my hardware is gold. I had to order a replacement.
At this price, they need to include both colors in the kit.
$8 of parts needed at 9.99 shipping from StewMac. That sucks and makes me less likely to recommend.
