Golden Age Alnico 5 Single-coil Pickups

About This Item

Vintage vibe, great price. Wake up your guitar! Inspired by legendary pickups of the '50s, Golden Age single-coil pickups bring out the best in your guitar.

The reviews say it all: "they really, really sing...great buy for the price." Wax-potted AWG42 coil windings and Alnico 5 staggered polepieces deliver vintage tone, optimum output at each position, balanced string response, and microphonic suppression. They're the real deal, for a lot less money.

Looking for extra punch? Our #5423 Overwound model is specially wound to 7.6K ohms, for the bridge or neck position.

Bonus! Two covers (one black and one white) are supplied with each Golden Age single-coil pickup, for easy pickguard matching.

Golden Age single-coil pickups have vintage dimensions for easy installation in standard bodies, and two vintage-style fabric-insulated hookup wires. Polepieces have 2-1/16" spread. Mounting screws, rubber tubing and wiring diagrams are included.

The middle-position pickup is reverse wound, reverse polarity, for hum cancellation at the #2 and #4 switch positions.

Note: Each pickup has a copper shield surrounding the coil, a modern feature for 60-cycle hum suppression not found on vintage pickups. To play "naked" vintage-style, simply snip the small jumper wire that connects the foil to the pickup's ground lug.

As good as it gets.

These are wonderful pickups, I am so impressed with the Golden Age range of pickups. I have the Strat and the PAF set and soon I'll be buying the Tele set. They are excellent and so affordable that it's a natural choice to make when upgrading. Thank you StewMac, keep up the excellent work. One very satisfied customer.

Messures good.

The pickup message good and is quite hot for a single coil (7.35K) won't know how it sounds for awhile. Have to build the guitar first.

I have an old Fender Duo-Sonic.(circa 1963)
The neck hole in the pick guard had to be widened a bit.
All good!

Not original Fender single coils but they sound better than the ones Squier put in.

I've heard good things.

I gave these a 4-star rating only because I haven't installed and heard them yet. I feel certain they are 5-star since they're coming from StewMac. I've been well pleased with everything I've purchased from StewMac. The quality of their products never ceases to amaze me.

why pay more? Excellent Squire upgrade

This is the sound you want from a vintage style Alnico 5 pickup. Why pay the price for the big name brands. My 'tech' who installed is the best guitar player in town (but he wants to do luthier work as a retirement from playing so did my for free as a demo) and he thought it sounded great.Replaced stock ceramic neck pickup in Squire '51. Still sounds fat, but a bit more sparkle and because I spec'd overwound, a better volume match to the hot hummer in the bridge. (btw, I don't hate ceramic pickups. some are pretty damn good)

And for you Squire guys, this was a direct drop in replacement. I've read that some Fender pickups don't work, as far as fitting pick guard cutout and pole spacing. I know Asian guitars use a different spec than the Americas.

Love StewMac. Tools can be pricey, but they have bargains like Golden Age. It's such a niche market that I'm glad they exist and so pony up to buy the tools. Plus, I support small companies. I refuse to save a few bucks to find a tool for a few bucks less on Amazon.

golden age single pups

I used these to replace the 23 year old Dimarzio single coils in my Strat. I disliked the Golden age for the few days of playing. Used these for a few weeks now and have decided to keep the GA in. The bridge and middle sounded very close to the Dimarzios. The hot bridge pup was what my Strat was missing. So overall, I like the change.
The Stew-Mac video demo was what originally convinced me to buy these.

Definitely better than the stock pickup in my Squier Classic Vibe Strat.

I bought the overwound bridge pickup for my 2010 Squier Classic Vibe 60s Strat. It definitely sounds more clearer than the stock bridge pickup. And a little more bite too.
