Pickup Height Foam with Internal Springs

About This Item

Finally! Pickup foam that won't wear out
Foam is a great alternative to springs for controlling pickup height, but it can wear out, fall apart, or be too stiff.

Spring foam's integrated spring keeps the pickup's height right where you want it. No need to wait for compressed foam to return to shape (if it ever does!). Used in Fender basses and offset guitar models, Steinberger guitars and bases, and other direct mounted pickups. Can be trimmed to the size you need.

Mounts in the body cavity with self-adhesive backing.

#5598 Long/Narrow for Jazz Bass and Jazzmaster pickups, set of 2.
Each: 2-3/8" x 11/16" x 1/2" (60mm x 17mm 13mm)

#5599 Short/Wide for P-Bass and Jaquar pickups, set of 2.
Each: 1-3/16" x 3/4" x 1/2" (30mm x 19mm x 13mm)

The product is great. I bought both types for my Jaguar and used the ones recommended for a Jazzmaster. If I need them for a Jazzmaster, I would use the ones for a Jaguar.

These are great. Cant really describe these other than a must have if your going to change out pickups.

Replaced the disintegrating original foam in my '63 JM with these. Nice replacement. Like the little springs.

Metal Springs Can Ground Out The Pickup Wiring

By

Okay - This may be my fault because my understanding of electronics is far from brilliant - however, hear this situation. A custom P bass that I built was plagued with electronics issues (buzzing, cutting out completely) and it wasn't until I pulled the pickups out and removed the springs from these foam inserts that the problem went away completely (dead quiet, consistent signal, fixed!) The foam by itself will work just find to provide upwards pressure on the pickup, but FOR pickups where the solder point is exposed on the bottom (such as the Seymour Duncan pickups I was using), the springs could "ground out" the exposed solder point if they happen to touch. Again, the fix is easy, just pull the springs out.

Hi Marshall,

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback with us, we genuinely appreciate that. That is very interesting! The pickup must have some sort of exposed wiring that was coming into contact with the springs causing a short. This is the first time we've heard of this! These work with most all P-Bass pickups.

Simple but effective

I replaced the pickups in my MIM P-Bass but the foam I used for adjusting pickup height wouldn't rebound. These such a simple but effective idea. Instantly was good to go and all adjustments were a breeze.

I used these to raise some Lambertone Crema humbuckers in a G&L Doheny(Jazzmaster style guitar). They worked like a charm!!

Perfect for direct mount pickups if you are tired of monkeying around with odd pieces of foam that compress weirdly. These offer nice resistance and the embedded springs make for precise adjustments, side to side.

Good idea but doesn't quite work

I put these in a PBass with EMG Geezer pickups and they did not hold up at all. The pickups would not adjust much. Ended up having to take them out and putting back the original rubber ones. When I took them out they were pretty much crushed for some reason. Just didn't work. Originals that came with the bass are much better.
