Great bridge, weak neck

By

Verified Buyer

The bridge pickup is bright, hot, twangy, and has a lot of that classic tele sound. The neck pickup is dull and weak. I had to lower the bridge pickup and raise the neck to try to get close to matching volume and can't get much articulation out of the neck pickup even with the tone cranked all the way up. The bridge on the other hand reqiures the tone to be rolled back a bit. The set is not a good match for each other. I'd recommend the bridge although it is a tad bright for me, the neck I'd recommend something else.

I bought them as a set for over $120. I don't think they're better than the Fender TexMex which are usually $55 for a set, in fact you could get Fender Custom Shop Tele pickups for under $100. I'd either go with Fender or upgrade to Lollar or someone else for tele pickups.

Sound as good as pickups costing much more!

Nice pickups

They sound good. Not as much presence or treble as I was expecting particularly on the neck pickup. The bridge pickup sounds great though; not ear-piercingly bright. The neck pickup lacking treble was my only reason for not voting 5 stars.

Outstanding

Installed these on my Tele with cts pro pots and a 4-way switch. Used a mod I found on youtube to have the front position on the neck pickup, the rear on the bridge and the two middle positions series and parallel. These pickups are terrific.

For that classic Telecaster sound.

I've been running this set in my tele for about a year, I've used the factory set and a set of Seymour Duncan quarter pounder and while the SD QP set were good they weren't that vintage tele sound. What I look for in my tele sound is clarity a sound that allows the guitar to sing through the pick ups like a vocalist sings through a microphone and the golden age set does just that! Responsive to dynamics and controls on the guitar these pick ups can be shaped to taste with use of eq very versatile for wide spread use.

FANTASTIC SOUNDING PICKUP

Love the sounds this pickup produces. Great product for the price. Sounds head and shoulders above other more expensive pickups I've purchased elsewhere. Will certainly use another one of these for my next kit build or upgrade.

Underestimated!

I was surprised by the quality in the making of this piece and the quality of sound it produces. Just like how they were done way back then. Would compare these to Seymour Duncan’s Antiquity minus the ‘aged look’

I would recommend the Golden Age pickup. It sounds like a Telecaster pickup is supposed to sound like! A great price point.
