Golden Age P-90 Pickups

About This Item

The classic raw single-coil sound!

Find your tone! New sets and hum canceling options
Golden Age P-90 models carry on the raw sound of early rock and electric blues. We listened to your feedback and now offer sets and
hum-canceling options!

Gibson's beloved vintage single-coils were the workingman's pickups, versatile for practically any playing style. Our Golden Age P-90s proudly carry on the tradition, with authentic components that faithfully deliver the classic bright tone.

We offer two styles of Golden Age P-90s to choose from
Our '50s-style Parsons Street™ model is named for the famous Kalamazoo street where the original P-90 was born. It features a black plastic bobbin with old-style enameled unpotted coil wire for the original slightly grittier sound, and is wound to 8.0K ohms.

We also offer a Modern version with a black fiber flatwork bobbin, wound to 8.7K ohms with wax-potted poly-coated wire for a smoother sound. The flatwork look is sometimes preferred for installations with the covers removed.

By player request—all the tone and no hum!
We've just introduced new versions of each model that are reverse wound/reverse polarity (RWRP). Put this pickup in either the neck or bridge position for hum cancellation in the middle position. Modern or vintage style, it's your choice!

New! Sets now available
We now offer sets to give your guitar complete P-90 growl! Available in Parsons Street™ and Modern sets, both are available as RWRP (hum canceling) or Original (not hum-canceling). Choose which tone you like best.

Get the vintage rock sound now!
Golden Age P-90s are direct replacements in Gibson® Les Paul® Juniors, SG® Juniors, and SG® Specials, plus archtop and semi-hollowbody Gibsons® made for P-90s. And they're great choices for giving your next custom guitar that raw vintage tone.

Both Golden Age P-90 models share authentic vintage details:
Alnico 5 magnets
AWG42 coil wire
1.97" (50mm) polepiece spacing
Braided single-conductor hookup wire
Original-spec nickel-plated polepiece screws

Black plastic soapbar cover included. More P-90 covers are available separately.

Great sound for my first P90 build!

By

I've previously built guitars with humbuckers and single coils. So for my latest build, I decided to go for P90 - I'd never played a P90 guitar before, but I'm very happy with the result. I was a bit worried about noise, but the Modern RWRPs (Item # 5471) are surprisingly quiet and sound really great.

I bought some chrome covers separately from CrazyParts, since I didn't feel the black plastic covers would look that good with my whale blue maple top.

'63 SG back to normal

Put two of these in a 1963 SG special that had been fitted with humbuckers. Orange caps and Emerson Pro pots-nice cleans and 8700 OHMS will crank up with my '60s amps.

Great Sound, Great Value

I'm very impressed with the sound and value for money of these pickups. I've used the Parsons Street version in both a walnut lap steel and in the neck position of a solid body electric. Plenty of output, with a lovely warm but clear jazzy tone in the regular guitar, lots of body and not too bright by the bridge in the lap steel. They overdrive very nicely too. I'll certainly be ordering more in the future.

3-P90 Strat

By

I picked the up Parson St. P90 set and a Reverse version to build a 3 P90 Strat style axe. Gotta say, I'm very pleased with the choice. Tone is incredible. I kept the 5-way Strat pickup selector. And, I added a switch to always have the next pickup selected. This gives me the ability to have any combination of pickups.

The tone is thick and beefy. There is a ton of spank with these bad boys. I play pretty dark. So, these really fit the tone curve for me. They do clean up well. And, and they can be very bright.

Can't be beat for the price

I just put three of these Parsons Streets in my latest custom build; Originals for the bridge & neck and RWRP in the middle, giving me a darker, beefier 'quack' in positions 2 & 4. Love that kinda gritty sound, somewhere between a Strat single coil and a humbucker. I really like the old school push-back wiring too.

Stew Mac has become my go-to source for high quality, affordable pickups.

Vintage Tone - Parson St.

I installed these into a 1993 Hamer Special. I wasn't happy with the stock pickups at full volume, but they sounded okay turned down a few notches. I really wanted to use my entire volume range, so I figured I would give these a shot. I was very impressed right out of the box (I mean tube). They have a very clear and articulate rock tone, but also sound sound great clean. I can now use my entire volume pot's range. I would described them as alive and bright, but still warm, just like a vintage P-90. These still have that sweet spot when turned down and can rip when required. I'm very happy with these pickups!

Rockabilly Rock!

By

I've got three vintage Gibsons with the original P90s. I like the P90 sound. One of my recent projects was a 1957 Kay Upbeat with a sick (sick bad, not sick good) P35 pick up. I only found one guy who would work on the P35 for me. He didn't know what it would cost and he couldn't get to it for eight weeks.

I decided to gamble on a Golden Age P90 to replace the sick P35. Winner! This old Kay now sounds fantastic. It's punchy, raunchy and just plain awesome. My only gripe is it went on sale the week after I bought it. I still rate it five stars.

Awesome tone, Super Value!!

By

Folks, don’t be mislead by the price of these pickups! I purchased a golden age Original Parson Street P-90 for a Les Paul Jr style guitar and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Tone and output are awesome. Replacing with this pickup put the guitar in a league where it holds its own with my original 65 SG jr.. highly recommend! One caveat, soapbar models may not be an exact fit for some. The pickup covers have slightly sharper corners than some OEs.

Guitar is great, but came with low end switches, pots, and pickups. Upgraded all the electronics, and it's great now. Pickups dropped right in.
