ColorTone Clear Grain Filler

About This Item

Finally, a clear grain filler that actually dries clear! It's not bluish or cloudy; ColorTone Clear Grain Filler is truly transparent when dry.

It's compatible with all finishes and environmentally safe.

This waterbase filler dries much faster than messy old paste fillers: in 45 minutes it's ready for a second coat. We recommend 2-3 coats, and you can spray waterbase finish 1-2 hours after the filler goes on. (If you're spraying nitro, give it 12 hours before the finish coat.) Compare this to oil-base fillers which take days to dry.
  • Compatible with all finishes, including nitrocellulose and waterbase lacquers
  • Environmentally safe. Non-toxic, nonflammable, and solvent-free
  • Can be tinted with waterbased stains or pigments
  • Easy to apply, dries fast and sands easily
  • Fills wood pores without sinking, shrinking or cracking
16-ounce (473ml) container.

This stuff rules.

I've used other pore filler / grain filler and none are easy to work with, easy to clean up, and just basically as friendly as this stuff. Even other water-based fillers are too runny, then they dry hard as a rock, but this stuff is more of a gel and. sands up nicely. Highly recommend.

This filler is awesome. Used it on a mahogany body and it came out perfectly. You can also use it on stained projects.

Not impressed

Seemed like a good product, but it's not. It leave swirls and you can sand right through it without trying while other spots look different even on the same area of wood. Its not easy to put on, it gets all over everything unless you are working with a large area and then you have to wear gloves and are constantly wiping it up. Picture trying to put car wax - really soft car wax - on your guitars bare wood.

What a great way to fil open grain wood...
Remember to stain first and sand in-between coats. I used 5 light coats. Applied with a stiff brush...to open mahogany.
This product will even itself out as drying takes place.

Impressed!  Thank You

I've tried a ton of grain fillers (some I've bought here), but none of them were so easy to use as this ColorTone Clear Grain Filler. I added it to some black pigment on a Les Paul Style body that I am currently building. I came back after 24 hours, and with some minimal wet sanding I had a very nice looking project. Most of the time, I come back to a project a bit underwhelmed, but this time...NOPE. IMPRESSED, THANK YOU!

Works pretty well

If you read the directions, it says to undercoat with a water base. Others here probably didnt do that which is why it wasnt filling properly. I threw on some waterbase polycrylic and it worked great

Best filler I've used so far

Very easy to use and doesn't make the mess that other grain fillers do. I rubbed it on with my fingers and scraped the excess off with a soft Bondo scraper and this worked very well. Had some trouble, however, getting a completely smooth finish, even after applying 3 coats. That said, it's now my go-to filler.
