Airbrush Outfit

About This Item

You'll get fine control for spot lacquer finishing, stain retouching and custom graphics with this affordable, easy to clean airbrush set.

We've used it with good results, and we think it's a great value.

The outfit includes everything you need to hook up to your compressor and spray at 15-60 psi. The siphon-feed airbrush has a .4mm nozzle and adjustable fluid cap.

Unlike other airbrushes that have an annoyingly stiff plastic hose, this one includes a 10-ft. flexible braided hose that gives you a full range of motion. Hose connections have standard 1/4" NPT threads.

Two extra glass jars are supplied for mixing and thinning lacquer and stains (many other airbrushes have plastic jars that can react with solvents and finishes). These 2-ounce jars are handy for storing partially used mixes.

Lacquer should be strained and thinned 1:1 before spraying. Not recommended for spraying waterbase finishes.

Nice little airbrush for the money!

I use this airbrush for shading instruments. Don't know if it would work well for fine lines. The first one I received was missing the button on the air valve. As usual Stew Mac made it right immediately. They are very customer oriented!!!!

Good for the Price

For the price, this is a decent little tool to have in the kit. Especially with SM's customer service. I've been happy to have this for doing touchups on sand through areas, repairs, color in small areas, etc. As others have noted, it would be great if there were at least a page of instructions available on line. I tried a full burst with it and found didn't have a wide enough spray pattern to really get the job done. It is great for hitting cutaways and other tight places where a bigger gun has problems.

I did have some quality issues with my first one. The supply hose blew off the connector at the compressor end, and the brass threaded insert where it connects to the handle pulled out of the handle. SM has sent me a new one, but I haven't tried it out yet.

A few notes. Be careful, as the bottle does not secure to the handle very well. It appears to be sort of a spring action/friction fit, but it's pretty flimsy. I hold it in place with a finger while I'm using it. Thinning the lacquer helps greatly as noted on the web site. An extra cap with the supply line would be great for having on a spare bottle of thinner for quick cleaning. Be careful to hold the tool mostly upright to avoid product dripping out of the lid.

Nice unit but no instructions provided.

This was my first airbrush purchase. It appears to be well made and produces a good spray pattern. It is easy to clean. I had to call StewMac's tech support department to learn whether my Harbor Freight compressor would work (it did) and I did some trial-and-error spraying to get the feel for the gun.

I'd like to see StewMac provide at least a few pages of instructions. Dan Erlewine's video was helpful but I'd like to have seen more detail on how to use this tool.

Works great after I cleaned all the solder out of the aspiration port

By

Initially I couldn't get the brush to work until I realized that the aspiration port was filled with solder. I considered sending it back for a replacement but decided to try cleaning the port with a 3/32" twist drill bit. I was able to remove all the solder just by turning the bit with my fingers and viola it works great. Did a tobacco sunburst with colortone stain and it looks amazing!

Good enough for small builders

It is really good for burstin - nice spraying, and bottle is just big enough for comfortable working for one layer... but as you get two, just organize yourself. I even manage to spray whole guitar for complete finish. You just need good air container.
