Capture the island sound! When you're looking for a premium, all solid wood tenor ukulele to build, we've made the perfect kit for you.

We have two all solid wood kits in Taiwanese Koa (Acacia confusa) or African Mahogany (Khaya ivorensis), the traditional and best-loved tonewoods for uke players.

If you don't have all the specialized equipment you need to thin tops or bend sides, or you want a head start that will save you hours of build time, this kit has all of the critical work done so you can start and finish this premium build with ease.

By customer request!
Our dedicated uke customers have been asking for a top quality, all solid wood kit for years. We were inspired by the traditional ukulele shape with it's elegant curves. Our team of on-staff luthiers designed this kit with the most desirable specs for the best sounding and playing uke you can build.

Premium solid tonewoods throughout
We did not cut any corners in sourcing the woods for these amazing kits. We hand selected these woods for great figuring and grain patterns. The mahogany is straight and even grained, the koa has great variation in color and beautiful flame.

The top, back, and sides, are premium solid African Mahogany or solid Taiwanese Koa. These are perfectly bookmatched and look stunning.

Not only are the body woods top quality, everything about this kit is the highest quality possible. The bridge and fingerboard are both beautiful Ebony (Diospyros celebica), and the braces are solid, high quality Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis). The necks are solid African Mahogany with an Ebony peghead overlay already installed.

We've curated every aspect of these premium ukulele kits to be the highest quality available today. You'll build a beautiful instrument that you'll love and be proud of forever.

really impressive kit. Fairly easy to build and a blast to play. Instructions were really good and this baby sounds great. I put a pick up in it and it was used for a song on "The Voice", it sounded great on TV!

An Enjoyable Experience

This is the first musical instrument I have built and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of its construction.
The kit was delivered in super fast time, ordered over the weekend and received in the UK the following Wednesday morning. Examining the contents of the box I was impressed by the high quality of the wood and all the other components in the kit.
I studied the clear, concise instruction manual and watched the on-line videos several times before beginning construction of the kit and as a result the building process was completely straight forward with no problems whatsoever.
I finished the ukulele with six coats of Tru-Oil and when stung and tuned the musical tone of the instrument was beautiful. All I have to do now is learn to play it.
I highly recommend this kit, it is superb.

Great with one exception

It’s a great kit and went together easily so should be 5-stars. The only issue is the instructions included in the kit were for the more budget ukulele kits which I’ve built before. The proper instructions are available on the website which is handy but super inconvenient.

Great Job StewMac! Nice confidence builder for upcoming guitar

I bought the Mahogany Ukulele Kit as a sort of practice for a guitar project that was started and never finished by a deceased friend of mine, gifted to me by his daughter. Although I took a guitar building weekend class last summer at a Woodcraft Store, I am nervous about this upcoming project. Well, it went together really well. there were hiccups along the way, but I got through them just fine. I am excited now for the big project ahead of me. Also, as a truck driver, I have a new toy to travel with me on the road. I am anxious to learn some songs on this fun instrument. Great Job Stew Mac!

Oh! I forgot to mention... I also got a couple face covers. I thought I would play with making my own rosettes. Truth is, ideas like this can really slow me down and depress me. I made the wise decision to go with the top in the kit, but now I am confident enough to play with this in my spare time, and if it works out well, then I will purchase another kit. It didn't take very long to make.

Very Impressed With This Kit

I was really happy with all the items this kit contained. The instructions are very good as are the YouTube videos. There is still a lot of careful fitting required so don’t expect the kit to snap together but it is pretty straightforward. I have finished the body of my Uke and everything is aligned on center so far so good. Looking forward to working on the neck and fretboard but I wish I knew someone with experience to make sure of the neck alignment and bridge placement, hopefully it will go well.

Good kit

I always build my guitars from scratch but I have a friend who was asking me to build him a Koa uke. I found that Stew Mac was offering one for a reasonable price so I purchased it. I am in the middle of the project now, and I must say that the quality of the materials and the instructions given could not be better. I am greatly looking forward to handing the finished instrument to my friend and watch him with it. He and his family travel all around the country and play and sing in churches. It will add much to their ministry.

Finished my Koa Uke. The kit was flawless, the instructions clear and concise, the Uke looks great and sounds really really good. I used Fish glue throughout and finished with three coats of Danish oil.

Great customer service

I purchased a solid wood ukulele kit and had some issues with quality control. First kit had flaws on the neck. Stewmac replaced it with a new kit and told me to keep the old kit for parts. Also found when putting the kit together that the template for bracing was incorrect and top would not fit to sides without modifying the front block. Unfortunately this didnt show up until Iwent to put the top on. Once again the customer service team shipped out a new kit with the correct template and all is good with the kit now. Very pleased with the choice of wood and hardware in the kit. A little pricey in Canada once the exchange rate and shipping is added on but a very nice instrument once completed. I will add a photo when complete. I have also purchased the laminated ukulele kit and a violin kit from there and am very happy with the quality of the kits.

Koa Premium Tenor Ukulele Kit

Giving this 5 stars for technical support (the best possible - replaced pieces immediately if necessary, plus great advice), excellence of the wood (beautiful), and instructions (very clear and highly detailed in most cases). Can't comment on tone of the instrument, as I haven't finished putting the ukulele together, but I am getting close. I thought that building a ukulele would be a simple introduction to the basics of being a luthier (slap it together in no time). However, this is not a simple kit. I fell that I have learned a considerable amount during the construction of this instrument and it's a great introduction to this art.
