Preservation Polish

About This Item

Silicone-free and repair shop friendly, with no wax or silicone residues. 12-ounce bottle.

Preservation Polish gently cleans, polishes and protects lacquer and varnish finishes.

Ordinary guitar polishes shine by leaving a long-lasting silicone residue that's very hard to remove. If your guitar ever needs a repair, the silicone will prevent glue or finish from adhering, making even simple repairs more difficult and costly.

Simply apply Preservation Polish with a clean cotton cloth. It leaves no wax or silicone residues, so there's no cloudy film, stickiness or build-up. And it won't discolor the patina of vintage finishes.

Luthiers and repair shops: You've learned the hard way that guitars and silicone are bad company. Silicone residue makes it difficult for glue or finish to adhere properly and is a primary cause of "fisheyes" and cratering in lacquer finishes. It's even worse if silicone reaches bare wood or gets into the cracks of older finishes. Even the simplest finish repairs can become more difficult, time-consuming and costly. Do your colleagues a favor — use Preservation Polish and recommend it to your customers!

I hoped for to much .

I have a Martin D18 Custom that I have been playing for about two years now and I didn't pay attention to what the oils from my skin and perspiration were doing to the finish. while looking straight at the guitar the finish is very shinny but when you look across the finish you can see dull spots . Nothing seems to want to clean this up , so it is not the fault of the polish but maybe the advertisement claiming it to clean and polish is a little stretch. I have used Dunlop 65 from the point I got the guitar but some how this dullness to the finish got away from me.

Cleans all finishes very well, larger bottle lasts longer, no silicones.

Awesome, My Second Bottle...

Love Preservation Polish. Deep cleans without disturbing the finish, leaving a clean, crystal shine. It goes a long way, but after a few years of getting my stringed instruments cleaned it was time for another bottle.

The only guitar polish I recommend based on 5 decades of tech & finish work

While I use other products in the finishing process ("buffing" compounds). Preservation is the only polish I use and recommend for string instruments. Every product that contains silicones and/or waxes is simply placing an "artificial shine" on the surface - plus they build up and become "dirt magnets". Car and furniture polishes & waxes serve different purposes - don't use them on instruments. Every setup I do includes using Preservation to remove contaminants left by virtually every other polish and renew the surface (unless the owner doesn't want it - which is almost never). Whether a guitar, banjo, pedal steel, upright bass or whatever Preservation cleans it up and gets it back to where it *should* be. I was in the coatings business for 37 years and have tested hundreds of furniture, wood and instrument polishes. This is the ONLY polish I will use on instruments.

Works great, but...

Bear in mind that this polish has the consistency of water. Not a big deal, pour carefully to avoid having an ocean of "polish" all over the place.

I used this on my white Les Paul Custom and was very pleased with the results. She shines better than any other polish I've used. I will be using this on all of them from now on.

Polish/Cleaner

I was using Dunlop 65 Polish and cleaner which is a excellent product. I was working on an older Martin D35 with a lot of build up that just would not clean off. It was so bad you could take a cloth and see the build up just move around. I order this product on a chance to see if would work. Guess what, follow the direction to a tee and after 2-3 applications the old Martin was shinning again. Great Product.

Preservation Polish to the rescue

I have two classical guitars, one cheap and the other a luthier build. They haven't been properly maintained in several years. I reached for my existing bottle or Preservation Polish and it slipped to the floor and broke. I ordered another because I was so pleased with the first. It is clean, easy to use and improved the look of both guitars as well as cleaned off the grime than had accumulated. I feel confident this product will clean without harming the finish on my instruments.

Used this to clean up a very neglected instrument. Worked better than expected. Wound up applying to rest of guitars immediately after seeing results. Brought my 64 Hummingbird and 65 Epi Broadway to a new like luster. Definitely will keep stocked at house. It really does the job!
