Pickup Clearance Gauges

About This Item

Simple and fast way to consistently set the gap between strings and pickups.

Clever time-saver: Fret a string at the last fret, slide a gauge under it, and raise the pickup until the polepiece touches the gauge. 1/32", 1/16", 3/32" and 1/8" thicknesses span nearly all the pro player specs in Dan Erlewine's book, How to Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great.

Made of non-magnetic brass, more practical than steel rulers or feeler gauges. Set of 4.

Thanks to guitar tech Dirk Wacker for developing this tool.

Just what I needed to take the guesswork out of setting my pickup height.

Not really necessary but worth the low price.

They make checking and adjusting the pickups on any guitar easy especially that they don't "stick" to the pickups like other metal rulers and such. They're probably not necessary to have but they can make it a bit faster for quick adjustments. I checked and tweaked 8 guitars in about 15 minutes.

Handy...but could be improved.

Useful tool. Better than hex keys, since these are round and provide a true measurement at any angle (remember, hex keys are longer point-to-point than side-to-side).

The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that they lack measurement #s on each gauges. That should be fundamental on any measurement device.

It would be easy for the manufacturer to stamp the measurement on each gauge...except for the smallest gauge is likely to thin. Solution: a simple stamped tag or fob that hangs on the ring with the gauge measurement #s.

Maybe you won't ever need them, but they are trully handy once you have them around. Practical, time saver.

Cool Tool

I think the best aspect of this set is that it is non-magnetic. It took the majority of the guess work out of finding the right height for both the neck and the bridge. in the past, I probably would have said “@&$# it, it’s close enough” after the 97th time the feeler gauge stuck to the pick ups. This little dude alleviated that pain. I will say, this tool is probably best used with a capo at the highest fret. Of course, this has nothing to do with the design of the tool...just an observation i made after realizing i didn’t have a third hand.

PU Gauges

By

Hated to spend the $ but needed them as the gauge I was using was "steel" and got magnetized from the PU's...but I'm glad I bought them as I finally got all the PU's adjusted on my other guitars. So far I am not disappointed in the tools/gauges I have bought from Stew-Mac...a bit pricey BUT they last and the quality is great so far !.............I'll be back again !
