About This Item

The ultimate vintage-style boutique quality set
When you want to build a guitar with authentic vintage tone, this kit will get you there. The woods are as close as you can get to the authentic materials used in classic vintage guitars. This kit is built with 5A Master Grade Madagascar Rosewood—the best commercially available substitute for the extremely rare and hard to find Brazilian rosewood.

You don't have to just admire those beautiful instruments, you can build one.

EXTREMELY LIMITED—Only 25 available! The only 5A Madagascar Rosewood Kit in the world
This is no ordinary kit, our Master Grade kit uses the rarest woods and finest materials. Our internal team of expert builders has individually hand selected 25 sets of our best, most highly figured, 5A Master Grade Madagascar Rosewood (Dalbergia baronii) and the lightest and stiffest AAA Old Growth Red Spruce (Picea rubens) tops in our inventory to create these kits.

If you don't have all the specialized equipment you need to thin tops or bend sides, or you want a head start that will save you hours and hours of build time, this kit has all of the critical work done so you can start and finish this build with ease.

Built just like the best vintage guitars
We went to great lengths to get the finest materials available anywhere. We are the only commercial retailer of Madagascar rosewood in the United States, and hand selected the absolute best sets that compare to the tone, feel, and look of Brazilian.

The Old Growth Red Spruce is exactly what was used on Golden Era Martins. The wood is the soul of those great old guitars, and this kit is the best collection of wood to get the vintage sound and feel.

Imagine the feeling of pride when you finish this guitar. When you look at the quality of the woods combined with your craftsmanship, you'll have a guitar to treasure alongside any vintage guitar.

Not only are the the top, back, and sides top quality, everything about this kit is the highest quality possible.

I have not yet started it, but am already impressed with the kit. The wood is beautiful and the hardware is great. All I need to do is build it after reading and rereading the instructions before I start. It is a great deal. Thank you.

Great kit for a special guitar.

I make guitars from scratch (more or less), but I saw this Mad Rosweood kit and decided to buy one. All in all, it's a great value much of the work done,Waverly tuners and the collateral docs that come with it. Although I've made a number of guitars of various styles and have my own techniques, seeing Dan Erlewine and Todd Sams on the video gave me a number of useful ideas and shortcuts that I will use.

The red spruce top is good quality, and the Madagascar back is as well. The ribs are not a particularly good match, but I will use them. I wish that the back had a backstrip, and I will probably redo the joint and add one there.

I really like the expanded product selection at StewMac. Nobody else does what they are doing. Overall, I'm very happy with the kit, and aside from the not-so-great wood match on the ribs, it's a really good deal, especially for anyone who is considering building a kit. This will be a unique build for anyone like that.

The woods are top notch. Sides are cleanly bent, joinery is impeccable. I will check back in when the guitar is built. I am doing this one all hot hide glue and replacing the plastic binding with celluloid. i will also install bone pins, the 'ivoroid' pins in the kit are cream colored plastic. This is the third Stew Mac kit I have built, the first two are a rosewood/sitka dread and 12 fret 000. The 000 sides were a bit squirrelly and difficult to finish, but other than that I have had very good experiences. Won't use the recommended vinyl sealer again, it did not work well for me.
