Golden Age Alnico 5 Single-coil Pickups

About This Item

Vintage vibe, great price. Wake up your guitar! Inspired by legendary pickups of the '50s, Golden Age single-coil pickups bring out the best in your guitar.

The reviews say it all: "they really, really sing...great buy for the price." Wax-potted AWG42 coil windings and Alnico 5 staggered polepieces deliver vintage tone, optimum output at each position, balanced string response, and microphonic suppression. They're the real deal, for a lot less money.

Looking for extra punch? Our #5423 Overwound model is specially wound to 7.6K ohms, for the bridge or neck position.

Bonus! Two covers (one black and one white) are supplied with each Golden Age single-coil pickup, for easy pickguard matching.

Golden Age single-coil pickups have vintage dimensions for easy installation in standard bodies, and two vintage-style fabric-insulated hookup wires. Polepieces have 2-1/16" spread. Mounting screws, rubber tubing and wiring diagrams are included.

The middle-position pickup is reverse wound, reverse polarity, for hum cancellation at the #2 and #4 switch positions.

Note: Each pickup has a copper shield surrounding the coil, a modern feature for 60-cycle hum suppression not found on vintage pickups. To play "naked" vintage-style, simply snip the small jumper wire that connects the foil to the pickup's ground lug.

golden age single coils

the golden age pickups are consistently high quality, humbuckers or single coils
you can't beat the price, and it is a great upgrade for your guitar, these are the first pickups I would recommend for anybody that is not happy with the sound of their guitar.
I myself put a set of parson street humbuckers into my 2003 SG, never sounded better
thanks, stew mac

Great customer service! This pickup didn't sound as good in my strat (57 reissue-1984) as I thought, and being a StewMac member they immediatley sent a return label and credited my account as I have many more orders on the way. Thanks StewMac.You rock.

Very, very good.

I now have two of these in my main gigging strat,..a stock 6k in the neck position, and an overwound 7.5k in the bridge position. These totally get the job done for me, and honestly, I can't tell the difference between these pickups and and the established name brand pickups (assuming both have the same specs).
I've pretty much come to the conclusion that a 6k strat pickup is my bread and butter for the middle and neck pickup, so Golden Age works great for me, but that 6k sound is a personal preference. If you'd like a different wind strength, 5.5k, 6.5k, etc, then you have to go name brand.
The overwound Golden Age pickup, at 7.5k, isn't shockingly different than the 6k. And I find it a much more versatile sound for the bridge position than a 6k. 6k in the bridge position is just to thin and shrill to match the other two pickups on most amp rigs.
The GA overwound pickup in the neck position is really, really nice for single note stuff...but for chordal stuff, I do prefer the 6k in the neck position.

No need for stinkin’ badges

Sweet tone and quality construction. Better than big “badge” brand pickups costing twice as much.

Well worth the price

I use golden Age overwound single coil and humbuckers in my own guitars and they're my standard issue in the ones I custom build for clients. The cloth wiring doesn't need stripping, just push back the insulation a little and solder.

Ok Yes These Are Really Great Pickups!

So I posted a review earlier on about the set of three of these. I went 6k neck and middle and stuck the hotter 7k-8k in the bridge. Went with with Stewmac's specs on the heights. I felt I had that neck pickup a bit too close and so I lowered it to roughly 1/8" bass side and 3/32" treble.. Then adjusted and balanced the middle and bridge. I waited a couple days to let the pickups grow on me. They sound great and now I'm very happy with the outcome.. Did the Kinman treble bleed mod and the .022 tone cap.Nice pickups, great price! I have bought alot of tools and other items from Stewmac over many years and always satisfied overall. Thx again!

The sound I was hoping for!

I bought the bridge and middle pickups to go with a bridge humbucker (well-known brand Alnico 2) that I had installed earlier. They really brought my 2003 MIM strat to life! Now that guitar has excellent tone in all positions. Amazing sounding pickups for the price.

Giving my Classic Vibe some real Vibe

Loved the way my squire classic vibe played but it wasn’t quite there until I put in these pick ups and wow it has awakened this guitar. Have been using for gigging now and I think it sounds as good as my American built strats. Love this product. I used the premium wire and pot kit as well and couldn’t be happier.

Great sound/quiality...Price is right too!!!

I had heard from a friend of mine that the Golden Age humbuckers were well made, so I decided to give these single-coils a try in a few of my Stratocasters. The tone has that great "singing" quality that vintage Fender single-coils are known for and not too edgy. My choice was the overwound variants to go in my neck positions and I was jamming SRV and some Hendrix licks in no time. Fantastic. Very mid-range heavy, but the clarity was still there for an overwind. Couldn't be happier. Plus, the copper shielding does screen out at least half the normal 60 cycle you'd hear with normal unscreened pickups. Thanks StewMac!!! Try them, you won't be disappointed and the price is very reasonable.
