'65 P-Reverb 15W Amp Kit

About This Item

Sparkling bright, perfect for surf
Plug your single-coils straight in for that signature clean American tone, or go surfing with the original AA1164 circuit and real tube-driven spring reverb and tremolo circuits, not digital effects!

The smallest member of the 1960s black panel family to offer reverb and tremolo, this amp made its name as a jangly pop dream machine. Aficionados treasure its early low-end breakup powered by a pair of 6V6 tubes.

For an example of the clean tones listen to "Surfin' USA", and look no further than the great tones of Mike Campbell of The Heartbreakers to hear more of what this amp can do. These cleans are THE definition of the rich, full sound of American tone out of Fullerton. When you drive this amp to breakup, the sweet overdriven sound is the tone of early electric blues.

StewMac has lovingly recreated this timeless amplifier in our '65 P-Reverb 15W Amp Kit. This is one of our Icon Kits: loving reproductions of vintage classics.

If building such an iconic classic sounds hard, don't worry. We've gone to great lengths to make sure this kit has the best step-by-step directions in the industry. The 65 P-Reverb is a perfect place to get serious about amp building. It comes with all the parts you need to complete this project in just a few weekends.

  • The cabinet interiors are genuine 3/4" North American Pine (not plywood), just like the ones made in the Fullerton factory in the 1960s
  • Superior craftsmanship on the tolex covered exteriors with perfectly aligned seams
  • Premium quality hardware
  • Top-shelf 6V6, 12AX7, 12AT7, 5AR4 tubes and vintage spec Heyboer transformers to give your amp the perfect vintage tone
  • High-quality period-authentic resistors, CTS pots, Orange Drop caps, and Switchcraft jacks for their authentic tone and a lifetime of trouble-free use
  • Authentic fiber eyelet boards just like the ones used in the original vintage amps
  • Period-correct pushback wire
  • 10" Jensen speaker—just like the ones used in the originals
  • We created easy step-by-step instructions for each amp kit, breaking down every task into clear, bite-sized pieces. With hundreds of full-color photographs and illustrations, these instructions make this an easy, fun and rewarding project—even for first-time builders.

Fun Project and Great Sound

This is the second amp that I built as a kit from StewMac. Make sure you solder both sides of the eyelet board as I didn't at first and had to later to get the voltages correct. The amp sounds killer and is lighter than my 68 silver faced Fender Deluxe. Plenty of power for me.

Very pleased

Great amp to build and gig with!

This is the first time I've ever built an amp, I've only had very little experience with electronics and soldering electrical components, so I was a little worried if I'll be able to handle this. And if you're in the same boat, worry not! The instructions provided with the kit was so detailed and clear I had no trouble following it and putting everything together. Everything worked the first time I plugged it in. The level of joy and satisfaction I experienced from hearing my guitar's sound coming through the speaker for the first time was incredible! It's really hard for me to describe it, just amazing! This amp is also perfect for me to play gigs with my band at small to medium size clubs! So thank you to the team at StewMac that put this together! I'm already looking forward to the next one I'll be building.

Excellent parts, quick shipping, and great instructions! I can't stress enough how good the instructions were. I'm not an experienced amp builder but the step-by-step instructions made the process simple and straightforward.

Great project!

I’m almost totally a beginner, I built a 5f1 kit recently and prior that I had never soldered before in my life. Once I finished that I caught the bug and wanted a challenge so I ordered this when StewMac released it. The instructions were great, so much more helpful than just a schematic and working diagram like other companies provide with their kits, and even though there were a couple typos I contacted customer service to clarify and they corrected them right away. It was also a phenomenal learning experience, in my last kit from Mojotone all the resistors were labeled so you just pick it out of the box and put it where the diagram says. StewMac’s instructions take you step by step on how to read resistor values so you actually get the experience of how to read resistors and choose the right one for the circuit. The fact that StewMac took the time to break down the schematic into understandable sections for a layman like me also shows a real dedication to the customer experience. Overall this has to be one of the best experiences I’ve had, and it sounds great! Even better, I’m the only person in my community with a real point-to-point wired “P” Reverb, and I built it myself! I wholeheartedly recommend it for beginners, enthusiasts, and even as a parent/child project, if it weren’t for the fact that I’ve got to save for grad school, I’d buy the D-Reverb kit as soon as StewMac released it too!
