Works great!

This may be a sacrilege to some but I wanted to mod my 2016 SG standard that came stock with p90s. After having it a year I realized I'm not the biggest p90 fan. I removed the pcb and dropped in the sg wiring harness. I only had to slightly twist a couple of pots to make it fit. I also couldn't utilize the supplied washers with the teeth. They wouldn't allow enough height on the top side to get purchase with the nut but without them it fit fine. The wiring harness was the easiest part of the whole mod. After a little routing for the full humbuckers and a new pickguard Im getting the tone I wanted. The prewired harness made this mod much easier .

Awesome quality

Bought a 2013 Gibson SGJ which had a tone-sucking circuit board instead of proper wiring. I gutted the whole guitar and wired it using this harness. It sounds like a new guitar! Really made a difference. Great way to mod a cheaper guitar into a great sounding daily player.

I bought this for a 1974 SG. All pots, pick selector switch and jack are too short. No other kit is available.

Great upgrade from PCB but watch out for fit

This is how my guitar should have always sounded. Would be 5 stars but like others have mentioned it didn’t quite fit so I had to break off some plastic from one of the pots. Bridge volume if I remember right.

Great Upgrade with a little tweaking

Bought this harness for my 2017 SG to replace the crappy PCB that Gibson uses. Totally worth every penny! The 57's sounded muddy and compressed before. This harness really opened them up. Much brighter sounding and the pups respond greatly to the controls. I did read others reviews and followed the advice of CJ below on the wire colors and it worked perfectly. Thanks to him. That being said, it doesn't quiet fit as advertised. I had to trim a little plastic off the bridge volume pot and sand a very tiny bit of wood off in the control cavity by the bridge volume pot in order for it to fit perfectly. No big deal for me but others might not be so excited to remove some wood on a $1400 guitar. Could be remedied fairly easily I'm sure. Other than that great upgrade really brings the guitar to life.

Great Upgrade, But Know the Facts First!

Like many newer Gibson® SG® owners, I bought the Golden Age Pre-wired Harness for Gibson SG to replace the tone-sucking PCB pot and cap contraption that Gibson has been installing in the past few years. This StewMac harness lives up to its promises. The upgrade is totally worth it and greatly improves the tone of the pickups, in my case Gibson 57 Classics. The pickups are much brighter and with higher fidelity when turned up all the way, and the tone keeps its fidelity when the volume is reduced (of course, that's characteristic of the 50s wiring).

However, I had a small setback during the initial installation, and I wish to offer the benefit of my hair-pulling experience to other Gibson SG owners who also seek to replace the PCB. One reviewer below had the same issue but didn't find the solution, but with a little Googling I found the answer. It seems that Gibson isn’t consistent with their published standards when it comes to their pickup wire colors and the PCB pin layout. On any pickup manufacturer's tech page, you will find that Gibson's color codes are as follows:

Red = hot
Black and bare = ground
Green and white = tap

But, look closely at the connectors on the PCB pickup wires, and the color arrangement will be different between the neck and bridge pickups. You have to wire the pickups to the StewMac pots correctly, or else the middle setting will be out of phase and weak sounding. The following is correct, at least with Gibson's current production pickups and PCB, for the SG Standard's PCB to Golden Age conversion:

Gibson Neck Pickup
Red = hot
Black and bare (soldered together) = ground
Green and white (soldered together and taped) = tap

Gibson Bridge Pickup
White = hot
Green and bare (soldered together) = ground
Red and black (soldered together and taped) = tap

The harness was easily installed in my SG - only problem was the wiring for the switch was too short for my configuration, but StewMac sent me replacement wire at no charge to fix the problem easily. Sounds great, very clean.

Great upgrade for my Epiphone G-400. The guitar holes needed to be enlarged with a hand Reamer, mounting was easy, some quick easy soldering. Good instructions.
