Golden Age P-90 Pickups

About This Item

The classic raw single-coil sound! Two new Golden Age P-90 models carry on the raw sound of early rock and electric blues.

Gibson's beloved vintage single-coils were the workingman's pickups, versatile for practically any playing style. Their raw sound was a driving force behind early rock and electric blues. Our Golden Age P-90s proudly carry on the tradition, with authentic components that faithfully deliver the classic bright tone.

We offer two Golden Age P-90 models to choose from: Our '50s-style Parsons Street™ model is named for the famous Kalamazoo street where the original P-90 was born. It features a black plastic bobbin with old-style enameled unpotted coil wire for the original slightly grittier sound, and is wound to 8.0K ohms. We also offer a modern version with a black fiber flatwork bobbin, wound to 8.7K ohms with wax-potted poly-coated wire for a smoother sound. The flatwork look is sometimes preferred for installations with the covers removed.

Golden Age P-90s are direct replacements in Gibson® Les Paul® Juniors, SG® Juniors, and SG Specials, plus archtop and semi-hollowbody Gibsons made for P-90s. And they're great choices for giving your next custom guitar that raw vintage tone.

Both Golden Age P-90 models share authentic vintage details:
Alnico 5 magnets
AWG42 coil wire
1.97" (50mm) polepiece spacing
Braided single-conductor hookup wire
Original-spec nickel-plated polepiece screws

Black plastic soapbar cover included. More P-90 covers are available separately.

I put dropped these into my Epiphone 56-Goldtop reissue. What a difference. The guitar is a real player now. These offer more clarity and excellent touch response to the stock pickups. While I was at it, I also upgraded all the electronics and wiring. Also, I love the black and gold motif!

I installed a set of the modern p90s in my Korean made Epiphone 56 Goldtop. It's just what the guitar needed. I also replaced all the wirling and electronics. The upgrade transformed it from a house guitar to a stage and studio performer. I highly recommend these pups!

Loud, Crisp & Vintage Sound

I replaced the stock mini humbucker in the bridge position of a 2016 Gibson SG Special T and I love it. It can squeal a bit if the gain is turned up high but all I have to do is roll back the guitars tone pot a skosh. Beware, I had to belt sand a larger radius to all four corners of the pickup cover to get it to fit into the cavity of the Gibson! It was a tight squeeze. Then I had to wet sand a polish the sand paper scratches away. After doing much recording with this along side of many other nice sounding guitars this one is the loudest and coolest sounding. It is my first experience with Golden Age pickups but certainly not my last. I'm ordering a zebra overwound humbucker for a Les Paul bridge today! Thank You Stew-Mac!

Epi Paul Sparkles Now...

I replaced a set of Epiphone P-90's in a '59 Goldtop model that never seemed to live up to its heritage, soundwise. Installation was straightforward, and the guitar's existing cream pickup covers easily swapped onto the Stew-Mac units in place of the black ones that came with them. Now the guitar's sound is just amazing, with great tone, sustain, and volume, plus it sounds authentic! These Golden Age pick-ups should be the go-to solution for your pick-up needs!!! Thanks!!!

P90 install

Took out a humbucker and installed a P90.
Worked great. Made a mistake by ordering a cover because one came with it. Also could not find a shroud to hide size change. Need a p90 oversized shroud.
P90 added brightness to bridge sound.

I had the pickup installed at GC and nearly fell over! The good part is the fullness but the best part is the growl! I'm looking forward to getting the bridge in shape too.

Excellent - improved clarity

My 2010 Gibson LP Special Junior was sounding muddy. Just not getting the snap I wanted so I have the vintage P90s a try and I'm happy I did. Improved upper mid response in the neck pickup and great attack on the bridge - I lowered the bridge since the attack was so present and now have a great balance of lows and highs across the board. Slight increase in hum since they aren't wax potted, but it's an easy tradeoff. Highly recommend, especially at this price point.
