New Tele Tone

I love the fourth position sound (pickups in series) that this brings to the table. It gives a humbucker sound to your Telecaster, gives a great Woman Tone impression as a result! The wiring diagram was spot on and easy to understand.

A word of warning

To anyone wanting to mount this switch through a guitar body rather than on a telecaster control plate, there's a bit of an issue with this switch. The switch throw is very long and the contact points inside are of very tight tolerance. This means that if you mount it through a guitar body, the switch might not sit up high enough to reach it's full length of travel with the switch cap on and the mounting screws in the way. I ended up having to buy and countersink the mounting screws and shave off some of the inside of the body cavity to get it to function correctly.

Enhanced two very different Teles

By

I'm using this four-way switch in two project guitars: one is a from-scratch Tele built around a Stew-Mac solid ash body, and the other is a Fender Thinline with a semi-hollow mahogany body. I made two amendments to the wiring diagram: adding a ground wire between the bodies of the two pots; and wiring the black bridge lead directly to the switch. Adding the fourth dimension has been a nice enhancement to both Teles.

Great Grigsby!

Great switches. I have only ever received one bad (faulty from mfg.) switch and it was not from Stew Mac. Not quite as nice as a CRL but they don't make a 4-way.

The real thing

I had bought a switch from another supplier and when I got it, it looked the same. When I went to install it, before I got it all soldered, it fell apart. This one installed great and now I have series option for lead work.

I has this professionally installed with Texas Specials in my AVRI 62 Tele. Works as advertised and I really like the way the guitar sounds now.

Must have item.

I just installed one on a customer's Squier Classic Vibe Tele, which already had some hot hand-wound pickups fitted. All I can say is, position 4 TOTALLY KILLS! 2 singles in series sounds like one huge, warm humbucker. This should be the first mod to any Tele. And while you're at it, drop a few dollars on some compensated saddles, also highly recommended, although I did end up putting some grooves in to stop the strings slipping sideways...

4 way switch

It worked well, even came with both handles. Gives a 4th tone to an already great guitar. The directions were ok, wiring diagrams accurate. My favorite Tele mod!

This thing is great!

I have used this switch in Teles, Strats, even a 7 string. If you are a clever sort you can use wiring diagrams found on the net and your brain to figure out how to wire anything. For example, you could run two humbuckers to their own 3 way mini toggles and wire them for series/split/parallel. Then run those wires from the mini toggles to the 4 way. You could even add a push/pull for phase. It works great with a triple shot. If you put in the effort, you can really do anything with this switch. It even works on a Tele.
